💙 💚 💛 ❤️ VCSA volunteering report insights. Thriving, collaborative and stronger together... Shropshire Council's VCSA (Shropshire Voluntary and Community Sector Assembly) recent report stated that: "Working with other VCSE organisations yielded the most positive experiences among survey respondents, with 87% reporting positive experiences." It's clear that collaborative working is a key strength of Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin's voluntary sector. We're a large county with dispersed settlements – the sector recognises that one solution doesn't fit all and together we can tackle a multitude of local issues. 💜 Our role as Shropshire's Community Foundation is to support collaborative projects through our grant funding. Our grants programmes are both geographic and thematic, targeting the most pressing challenges and issues in our county. Shropshire Council's VCSA (Shropshire Voluntary and Community Sector Assembly) recent report stated that: "VCSA member organisations reported assisting an average of 2,284 people per organisation per year across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, meaning that even if multiple organisations are helping one individual, it is still likely that the majority of residents in the county received some sort of support from a VCSE organisation over the course of the year". It's phenomenal that our voluntary sector organisations are reaching the majority of residents across our large county! Perhaps sometimes going unnoticed. 💜 Our role as Shropshire's Community Foundation is to champion, elevate and support our, sometimes tiny, frontline organisations. Volunteering has so many benefits. As well as the camaraderie offered by other volunteers and charity staff there is a sense of belonging which is one of the most basic of our human needs. The feeling of satisfaction I get from my own volunteering experiences comes from the feeling I am "giving something back" to society and in the support of others who may be less fortunate for various reasons. Not for profit organisations are set up to benefit individuals going through times of vulnerability and that could be any one of us at any time in our lives as we don't know what is around the corner waiting for us. Most charities support the work of the statutory services such as councils and the NHS and we all know how they are under pressure in terms of health and social care. So as well as the benefits we can give through volunteering, there many ways we, as individuals can learn from what voluntary organisations do, what they deliver, how they get funding and how to operate through good governance. Just think of the skills that can be developed for those who are serious about demonstrating outstanding CVs. Benefits all round I would say!

This is such a great idea! There must be so many mini-volunteering tasks that could be done at a variety of charities! At our Cats Protection retail shops I’m thinking books out ready to be sorted, clothes rail tidying & bric-a-brack dusting. Maybe kitten name suggestion jars, brooms & dustpans or gardening tools at Adoption Centers? #volunteering #cats
