The vast majority of reports our network process contain child sexual abuse. We urgently need to support improvements in collaboration and process standardisation to tackle this head on. We thank our partners, like Google, who give us the ability to expand the INHOPE Network into high-risk regions for child abuse and exploitation. "Google is grateful for INHOPE's leadership, expertise, and service in the fight against online child sexual abuse and exploitation. We're proud to support INHOPE's efforts to expand their work globally and steer critical multistakeholder efforts in our collective response to this urgent, horrific crime." – Emily Cashman Kirstein, Child Safety Public Policy Lead, Google Access the INHOPE Annual Report to get more key insights and learn about our network’s impact in combating child sexual abuse online👉 https://bit.ly/48SOtZC #Annualreport #research #publication #childprotection #digitalsafety #CSA #CSAM #annualreport2023 #datatrends #innovationtechnology #network #networkexpansion #reportingfigures #keyfigures #Google #ourpartners

As technology continues to evolve and increase the potential for harm to children, it's essential to gather as much data and intelligence about the ways children can be harmed in order to better respond to the crime. The WeProtect Global Alliance released a new study earlier this year of young adults across European countries and their experience of online harms during childhood. Over 62% of online child sexual abuse material is hosted on servers based in Europe. Understanding the lived experiences of victim-survivors of child sexual abuse is "vital to understanding the nature, scale and complexity of online sexual harms and how to develop appropriate responses." Read WeProtect's study and its implications on how to navigate the response to child sexual exploitation online, below. https://lnkd.in/edyYAPuY #OnlineSafety #ChildProtection #ICMECAustralia

For anyone working in this field, this should come as no surprise. The United States is regularly one of the largest consumers and producers of CSAM worldwide. The question becomes, what can be done about it? Of course one of our strongest recourses is to listen to and support our children. However a far more direct, yet fraught option is regulating the technologies that have allowed the exploitation of vulnerable individuals to flourish. For decades, emerging companies have created platforms that have fundamentally altered how humans interact with each other - rarely with any foresight. This has led to an explosion of technology being used to prey upon others: online sexual enticement of children, sexstortion, revenge porn, AI-generated exploitative material, fraud, etc. Few companies have made any efforts to curtail such abuses and/or make their platforms safer for users. This is patently ridiculous. Currently all three branches of the U.S. Government are tackling technology regulation: the DOJ is pursuing legal challenges against Google and Amazon; Congress has multiple bills focused on regulating data collection and mandated reporting; and SCOTUS has agreed to hear Moody v. NetChoice and NetChoice v. Paxton. It is a key time to push for stronger protections for ALL users, especially children.
Research provided by Rhiannon Williams in the MIT Technology Review states that the US hosts more child sexual abuse content online than any other country in the world. Without new legislation, the problem will only grow. How can you make a difference? ➡️ Educate ourselves. ➡️ Advocate for stronger protections from the social networks we spend our time using and the companies we support. ➡️ Talk about it– even though it's hard. Silence around this topic doesn't serve the children we're responsible for protecting. ➡️ Support organizations committed to addressing this issue. 🚨 92% of Europeans are deeply concerned about the increasing risk of #ChildSexualAbuse #Online and with at least two images or videos shared online every two seconds, they are right! Data from @WeProtect Global Alliance underscores that #ChildSexualAbuse predominantly occurs within private messaging platforms and media-sharing services. The consensus among Europeans is crystal clear: in the face of a genuine risk of child sexual abuse online, EU leaders must prioritise children’s safety over users’ privacy online. 👉 Join the #ChildSafetyON movement to urge EU leaders to protect our children online: https://bit.ly/BeaconECPAT #ECPAT #EUvsChildSexualAbuse #ChildSafetyON

New research from Suojellaan Lapsia, Protect Children ry sheds light on the distressing accessibility of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online, predominantly on social media platforms and pornography websites. 👉 77% of surveyed offenders encountered CSAM on the open web 👉 40% of surveyed offenders attempted to contact a child after viewing CSAM; the majority did so online 👉 CSAM offenders are moving to end-to-end encrypted messaging apps to offend against children without fear of detection 🚨 These findings call for immediate action, highlighting the necessity for a comprehensive EU Regulation mandating platforms to detect, report, and remove all forms of child sexual abuse online across all online environments.
