Attention all caregivers and older adults! During Consumer Protection Week, let's shine a spotlight on a prevalent threat: grandkid and family scams. Here's how to keep your loved ones safe: 📞 Stay Skeptical: If someone calls claiming to be a grandchild or relative in distress, verify their identity independently before taking action. 📋 Set Security Measures: Establish security questions or secret phrases with family members to confirm their identity over the phone. 🚨 Beware of Urgency: Scammers often create a sense of urgency, urging immediate action to prevent harm or legal consequences. 📱 Stay Connected: Foster open communication with older adult relatives. Encourage them to reach out if they receive suspicious calls or emails, without fear of judgment. 🤝 Involve Trusted Contacts: Establish a network of trusted family members or friends who can assist with financial decisions and provide support during potential scams.
