Amazon could be reshaping the landscape, intertwining commerce and content. Despite creative hiccups, it's constructing a model where streaming becomes profitable. Its shows, though not always stellar, will soon fully join forces with its potent advertising machinery. Amazon has enough information on its customers, through its e-comm site and its Fresh grocery stores, to serve highly focused content. What’s more, it can measure the effectiveness of content, by observing viewers’ subsequent behaviour in its shops. It has yet to exploit this ability fully. Remarkably, the streaming platform is evolving into a high-margin marketplace, akin to its e-commerce giant. The first Amazon Upfronts took place yesterday and it was a banger! Here are my top three takeaways: 1. Demand for Amazon is skyrocketing. Attendees had to wait an extra half hour for the show to start due to lines outside. Attendees who didn't get a seat lined the aisles to get a glimpse at the Amazon offering. 2. The Upfronts are still the Upfronts. While Amazon's unique audiences and shopper data are key benefits, yesterday's event was all about the original content Amazon MGM Studios is pushing out. A-list celebrities like Reese Witherspoon graced the stage to headline multiple projects. 3. Amazon is not just for brands who sell on the platform. With the Amazon Marketing Cloud, any brand (not just those who sell on Amazon) can gain insight into how to reach their desired consumer across the 175 million people Amazon touches. Overall, the first Amazon Upfronts did not disappoint! It's clear that Amazon is the hot item right now and brands of all kinds can benefit from their offering. #advertising #upfronts #streaming #ctv

On day 2 of #primeday , rather than just looking at the Profitero movers and shakers (although more of that to come), it's always useful to start planning for Cyber Week or even next year's Prime Day. And, as always, we look to amazon.com for future ideas. One fascinating development is the "Amazon Inspire" feed, seemingly developing on from the success of sales from Amazon Live. Influencers too play a key part on the website, of course with specific product recommendations. Finally, TikTok is running a Prime Night Duel for the Duels where celebrities compete to win extra Prime deals for viewers. https://lnkd.in/eG92nxbc Will we ever see the same social driven sales in Europe? This is the first #primeday #amazon has had since launching its Tik Tok style “Amazon Inspire” feed and its already interesting to see how they are featuring it on the home page under “Prime Day Inspiration” and working deals into the mix. Also notable to me is the amount of #cpg brands (Hershey, McCormick) getting air time in this format vs what you’d expect (clothes, electronics etc) I think I like this deal promotion experience much better than live shopping!

How much are you willing to pay for knowing your customers? Did Walmart buy a TV company or data? So Walmart has acquired VIZIO, and the question is, what is the benefit of purchasing a TV company? We have seen reports that show that Amazon's Advertising Services Revenue is growing year over year. Just last quarter Amazon generated $14.4 billion from Advertising (compared to $0.9 billion from Walmart). Amazon has Prime Video, Amazon.com, Fire TV, IMDB, etc. to collect data from customers, Walmart doesn't have that much. Purchasing VIZIO could be a strategy to collect data from customers. Besides the revenue that it will get from selling TVs, SmartCast, the operating system from VIZIO has over 18 million active accounts. This represents a lot of potential customers that Walmart will be collecting data. Where does this position Walmart? This strategy will accelerate Walmart's advertising business and start competing with Amazon head to head. At the end of the day, this is mere expectations. P.S.
