Sure, a hefty paycheck is tempting, but remember, you spend most of your waking hours with your colleagues. Make sure they're fair, supportive, and make you actually excited to hit the office door. It's not just about free snacks and kombucha on tap (though those are nice). Look for a culture that values: Collaboration: Do teams work together seamlessly, or is it every designer for themselves? Better design is built by collaboration not competition. (Designers are a different breed than sales/marketing teams who thrive on competition… Businesses creating insecurity, fear and competition in a creative team has risks of a toxic environment and loss of top talent) Transparency: Are decisions made openly and honestly, or shrouded in mystery, where ego drives decisions? Feedback: Do people actively seek and give constructive feedback and teach eachother to help each other grow? Respect: Is everyone treated with dignity, regardless of position, experience, national origin, beliefs, gender and age? Finding the right fit isn't always easy, but trust your gut. Choose a team that aligns with your values, support your personal aspirations and respects your time and boundaries.
