As I mentioned in my last post, Google's Immersive view is a brilliant way to visualize the maps. For now, it covers most of the popular cities and is expanding to other POI's across the world. It may take time and going forward might become costly to integrate, as it is built upon a flood of data, huge infrastructure and lots of resources. The closest thing one can build, to mimic it, is 3D/4D models. Google Maps supports modeling via WebGL and works very well with three.js. I tried some hands on Google Map codelab's on WebGL and the result is beautiful.
