On a mission to explore the meaning of inclusion, a group of Googlers travel to Birmingham, Alabama to visit Lakeshore, a state-of-the-art recreation center designed for people with disabilities. Along the way they meet the USA Wheelchair Rugby team and have fun touring the city. #GlobalAccessibilityAwarenessDay#GAAD#LifeAtGoogle

This is so cool. I've always been interested in wheelchair sports but I'm not very athletic or coordinated, so I'd probably be better off cheering from the sidelines. 😅
I didn't know there were so many different types of wheelchairs for different sports. This makes me even more excited to cheer on the U.S. Paralympics team this summer.

This Video provides the insight of how people with physical and special disabilities play volleyball.
Sitting volleyball is for people who have any kind of lower limb condition, with that other task were also added for us such as playing with one hand or with non dominant hand, playing with one eye closed which can be seen in this video.
Playing with one hand shows how a person with single hand impairment can play.
How people can play when they have abnormality in one eye.
The most strenuous task was playing with both eyes closed, for a person with incapacity in both eyes. This people play volleyball using a ball which produces some kind of sound while playing, this helps them do the activity by using their sound perception which tends to be high in persons with special disabilities.

Building a community isn't a part-time job, it's a full-time job.
Building a community isn't only a career objective, it's also a personal objective.
Build community in ALL that you do, not just some of it.
#community#coaching#volleyball#thinkbigger
This is 100% Human Generated Content showing you that building community in all that you do is and ALWAYS will be good for you.
Building a community takes time, effort, caring, and a lot of people that think like you do.
There is no rush to do it and sometimes it happens faster than you would think.
Not only are we building a community with our business. We are also building a community around volleyball in our area.
Yesterday, we invited all of our players and coaches to a watch party for the NCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship game.
While all everyone was able to attend we still had a great turn out.
The kids got to have some non gym time bonding and the parents of the players to got hang out and meet each other.
Our goal is always to build community in all that we do.
We never stop working at this.
This is how we Make Life Glimmer for all around us.
Have a Glimmering Day and week.

Belonging is a team activity ... just like rugby … 🏉
I shared this post a few weeks ago and my intention was to provide support to my queer community 🌈
But …
Now I realised my post was more about providing assess and an opportunity to BELONG.
I look at this photo from 2014 and it was my first opening to engage in a new gay environment. I didn’t have access before because I didn’t see where my own identity fit in a narrative that I was either too gay ’n’ campy, or too straight acting ... Rugby is actually a good fit when you think about it ... 👀
When I played for this team, I still didn’t feel like I was able to be open in my place of work.
I was as some people call ‘Out at WORK’ but I was hesitant to share my personal life knowing there was a fine line of walking a tightrope of where I fit into my place of work with my manager, colleagues and clients.
I knew belonging to an organisation also felt like I had to BELONG in a certain way that didn’t make people feel uncomfortable or worst … I would have to justify why gay sports teams needed to exist and/or the prove the skills of this GAY team was more than competent 🙄
I wonder if I had a time machine and went back, what needed to be different or change from me … 🤔
I realised nothing needed to change from me ... ❌
I did what I needed to do. I came back after the season and told my story.
I knew I had to be the FIRST and share. I wasn’t vulnerable, brave or authentic, I just told a story and left it at that.
The responsibly of creating the sense BELONGING, wasn’t mine 💡
Yes, I was a participant but the whole organisation is responsible from managers, colleagues and clients.
Please don’t make individuals the driver of BELONGING, we all lead and contribute.
Start with the small steps, encourage people to tell their stories without the commentary or judgment ... 🪜
Here's a hot tip: Don't deny their lived experience because that's the opposite of BELONGING.
NB:
I have had a few good responses to my offer of training 🏉👏✅

💪 ”Throughout my squash career, I have had so many role models who have inspired me, whether that was to pick up a racket, to compete for a title, or just to be the best version of myself, and I hope that I can encourage others to do the same.”

New benchmarks have been set in supporting Para sport over the last decade or so, but it's a model that needs to evolve and be replicated globally. Support and exposure can propel it further into the mainstream between Games 📣🚀. Lots of promising steps being made though! #Paris2024#LA2028#Paralympics

Just 363 days to the Paris 2024 Paras but, for all the IPC’s bullishness, is the cause of disability sport actually being advanced Games to Games? ‘Frankly, who cares?’ is my take in this week’s edition of Sport inc. which also channels Barry Davies, celebrates 10 GB athletics medals, points out a fork in the road for women’s football and rounds off with 42* in Brockian Ultra Cricket.
