At Google, we're working to infuse health equity considerations into everything we do – including data selection and management for LLMs. We call this effort "equity by design." Learn more from Chief Health Equity Officer, Dr. Ivor Horn, in a conversation with MobiHealthNews on how we’re: 🆕 Creating infrastructure and processes for health equity considerations where they have never existed before. 🦾 Holding ourselves accountable to the infrastructure and processes we create as we build models, conduct research, and build the health products of the future. 🤝 Partnering with equity-focused organizations as we learn and grow in this space – together. It’s become clear over the last year that folks in our community are craving more small-scale, in-person opportunities to learn and network. So we’re doing a bit of experimenting to see what sort of role HTN should play here. Next month in NYC, Health Tech Nerds is co-hosting a dinner for Ops Leaders (Director and above) in healthcare/health tech. Our goal is to create a low-stakes, conversational space for folks to learn from and get to know one another. If you’re interested, please take ~30 sec to fill out this form and we’ll be in touch: https://lnkd.in/gA5x8HdD Note that with anything small like this, we won’t have space for everyone. We’ll select attendees in a way that maximizes the value for the group and individual (i.e., consistent experience, good mix of companies, etc.). If all goes well, hopefully this isn’t the last!

Huge thanks to these researchers for surveying a sample of public health consultants and sharing the results broadly. Here are the takeaways I found most interesting: 1) Only 37% of white respondents have other paid employment, compared to 85% of Black and 100% of Asian respondents. Is secondary employment a higher priority/preference for consultants of color? Or are there inequities in consultant contracting practices that influence their ability to leave regular employment? We need more research and action on this topic! 2) Public health employers take note: The most common reasons respondents started their business were the opportunity to work on projects of interest, more flexible hours, autonomy to select their work environment and processes, and the option to work remotely. What changes can employers make to provide these perks for regular employees? 3) Schools of public health – what courses or certificates could you develop to support budding public health consultants and entrepreneurs? The survey results highlight significant gaps in public health practitioners’ business development knowledge and skills. What a great opportunity to strengthen the public health field! #consultants #entrepreneurs #PublicHealth
Public Health Consultant | I help public health organizations design effective e-learning solutions.
Did you know that 35% of self-employed US-based public health consultants and entrepreneurs never see themselves going back to traditional employment? This is just one of the interesting findings Vinu Ilakkuvan, DrPH Laura Runnels Ke'alohilani Worthington, MPH and I discovered when we conducted a survey with this segment of the public health workforce. For a variety of reasons, we are choosing to independently share these results now vs. continuing with the peer review process. We don't want to wait any longer to distribute them and we want open access for anyone who wants to review or use them. So, we are sharing a Dropbox folder where you can view and download the materials. Here is what you'll find: -Full manuscript + accompanying tables/figures "Describing the Self-Employed Public Health Consultant and Entrepreneur Workforce in the United States – Survey Findings and Practice Implications" -Results snapshot for public health consulting & entrepreneur audience -Results snapshot for public health organizations/academics/workforce development audience This was an unfunded passion project for us over the past few years. We appreciate everyone's support as we developed and launched the survey. There are of course limitations to our sample and the results we can conclude, but we hope that the materials here are beneficial to many in the public health workforce. And hopefully they will inspire future research with self-employed public health professionals! We'd love your help disseminating these materials, so please forward to anyone who may be interested and/or tag them here. Please let us know if you have any questions, Leah, Vinu, Ke'alohi, and Laura #PublicHealthCareers #PublicHealthConsultant #PublicHealthEntrepreneur #PublicHealthWorkforce

Read below to learn about this month’s boundaries! >> Boundaries to practice in community: Announce your needs so that those waiting to help you can. There are people who have just the medicine, support, or resources you need. They need your consent and you need to make a request. >> Boundaries to practice for self: Address the person who violates your boundaries the most - YOU. We often go past our limits way before we give others an opportunity to violate our boundaries. Look at how you’ve contributed to your own suffering before pointing the finger outward. >> Boundaries to practice at work: Use what you have. Every organization has a set of tools, a previous survey/assessment, and workshop materials that have gone to Google Drive hell to die. [New Episode Release] Fresh out of the studio 🎙 , Sapna Chadha from Google, and Florian Hoppe, partner at Bain & Company shared the key takeaways from the Google e-Conomy SEA 2023 report with Temasek & Bain & Company. Sapna and Florian discussed how start-ups are navigating the current declines in venture capital funding and introduced how high-value users presented a new way of visualizing what goes behind the digital economy in Southeast Asia. Last but not least, they discuss what great looks like for businesses in Southeast Asia. "I think in the past, we've looked more at inclusion and access, but actually we've made so much inroads over the past years. Now again, we're talking about participation because what we're seeing is that 30% of the highest spending customers who we call high-value users (HVUs) - they make up over 70% of the digital economies' transaction value. So 30% Are leading to 70% of the digital economy. We want to make sure that we don't leave users behind and we continue to drive growth and drive their participation. So we need to make sure that we are not ignoring this very important group that presents a 1.9x growth opportunity of that of high-value users. And for this reason, it's really important for us to talk about digital participation." - Sapna Chadha Full YouTube Video: https://lnkd.in/gQ7QZQTb

🌟Which Primary Care services are highly innovative & disruptive?🌟 Different organisational models? Working differently? Engaging differently? Employing different skills? Involving community/ patients? Keeping people well? Managing demand? It would be great to hear some stories!
