Coming in today feeling inspired by an incredible panel of bad ass women from last night's Tech Mondays event. Featured females represented such diverse realms: DE&I, tech moms, legislation, VCs, kids & coding. My big takeaways: I was blown away to hear how AI is leveling the playing field for SMBs and democratizing the environment. AI is improving the workflows for citizens in accessing government documents and facilitating applications/ renewals. And it's automating processes (sales, support, SEO/ marketing) to free up the humans to do only what they can and need to do. But arguably more importantly... the consistent theme I heard was that the future is female and incredibly diverse. We're playing the long game and it's incumbent upon us to invest in the up and coming generations. I love hearing the ways in which we are all mentoring, coaching, networking and supporting folks on their journey to Tech leadership! #womenintech #futureisfemale #ai #innovation Check out future Tech Monday opportunities here: https://techmondays.io/ .

A great conversation today with Annie Brown on the ethical and as-queer-as-possible implementation of AI lead to my introduction to the concept of trans technology, which is defined by these three characteristics: 1. Enable trans users to change over time, in a space separate from existing networks, and present identity in ways that feel genuine 2. Embrace queer aspects of multiplicity, fluidity, ambiguity necessary during gender transition 3. Uphold policies and an economic model that embraces adult or erotic content without characterizing and removing it as pornographic It's so exciting to think about how we can leverage modern tech to design novel solutions that end up benefiting everyone. Regardless of your gender experience, we all change throughout our lives and it just Makes Sense that we're able to reflect that in our digital selves. Hopefully Lex can continue to be a proud piece of trans tech. Reliabl is onto something extremely cool, if you haven't checked them out yet - you should!

Hey, #TechCommunity, brace yourselves for this one: DevTernity, a prominent tech event, got caught red-handed fabricating #femalespeakers! Seriously, if this weren't so appalling, it'd be hilarious. 🔍 The Plot: Gergely Orosz unearthed the fact that two of the rare female speakers at #DevTernity were, well, fictional. Yes, crafted by AI, complete with social profiles managed by organizer Eduards Sizovs himself. 📸 AI-Generated Profiles: Think this couldn’t get more bizarre? The photos of these "speakers"? Also, AI-generated. 👤 More Fabrications: Liz Fong-Jones dug deeper, finding another fake speaker with a profile operated by Sizovs for five years and boasting 115,000 followers. This 'speaker' was allegedly affiliated with Uber in Estonia, a country where Uber doesn’t even have a software development office. 🤥 Sizovs' Defense: Eduards Sizovs attempted damage control, claiming technical errors and logistical issues led to the inclusion of these phantom speakers. But let's be honest, the excuses fall flat, especially when one of these 'speakers' turns out to be a fictional character he made up. So, #DevTernity, trying to fake #diversity? That's not just unethical; it's downright insulting. It's 2023, and if you can't find real women in tech to speak at your event, the problem isn't the lack of women, but your lack of effort. Remember folks, inclusivity isn't a box-checking exercise. It's about genuine representation and opportunities. #TechDiversity #InclusivityFail #RealWomenInTech For an insightful dive into how Hip Hop can be a force for social change, visit www.HipHopForTheFuture.org. #UnapologeticBlackNewsletter, #HipHopForTheFuture, #KhafreJay.

It's apparently easier to create FAKE women than to find real ones with something to say. This article about a tech event organizer who created fake women speakers to simulate diversity in his speaker lineup brought some memories to the surface for me. Here's some versions of this story that I've personally witnessed: 1. Saying "the lineup is "almost 40% women" and hoping that everyone agrees that 23 is "almost 40" 2. Putting a female moderator on a manel and calling it a day 3. Putting a female MC on an all-male two-day event and calling it a day 4. "there's so few qualified women we couldn't find a single one to be on this panel but we did find these 8 men" 5. "Let's fill up the agenda and worry about the diversity quota later" 6. "the invited country/organization nominated the speaker and we didn't feel we could say no" Time to do better, folks. #Diversity isn't optional. Thanks Jiahao Chen for bringing this article to my feed!
So diversity in tech is so poor, conferences are faking diverse speakers! Extraordinary story by my colleagues Natalie Lung Ella Cerón highlighting how DevTernity event was canceled following accusations that the organizer fabricated female speakers’ profiles. Read the story in full below, and join us on the Bloomberg Media #technology show at 12pmET as we dig into the story in full. For a reminder, women make up 29% of the tech workforce, according AnitaB.org, who surveyed workers at 40 US companies. #diversity #tech #women #developers https://lnkd.in/dJ26EQ-8
