It’s that time of year again! Voting for SXSW 2024 has arrived! Https://panelpicker.sxsw.com/vote As you will recall, I spoke at SXSW 2023 and it was a transformational moment. To speak on one of the largest stages in the nation was a true honor. I am submitting three proposals: one to SXSW and two to @SXSWEDU. My solo talks focus on banning books, and the impact on the model minority students. We often think about book banning and its impact on one certain demographic. Yet, we do not think about the impact on the other ethnicities. It is important to highlight those voices as well. I am also working with my good friends to discuss education and his holistic impact on students with disabilities, multilingual, learners, and how parents can engage in schools. DeShanna Reed, EdD, BCASE Dana Gastich French, UpRiver Education Please consider voting for all three of these important proposed talks. Our voices one needed in the world. Closing the gender gap in tech starts with representation in schools and an equal distribution of resources. Last year, only 17% of schools in New York City were meeting the equity goals of reaching girls and Latinx and Black students about computer science education under the CS4All initiative. This discrepancy will be further exacerbated by the latest budget cuts for community schools, disproportionately impacting marginalized students the most. It’s so important to give our kids access to the tools they need to achieve not just their dreams in STEM, but also anything they set their minds to. Learn more: https://bit.ly/46pVfF9

As Girls' Schools Association & Association of School and College Leaders celebrate their joint 150th anniversary, formed from a movement to provide education for girls, we look at what equality for women and girls looks like today. This anniversary marks an important milestone in girls’ education and a moment to acknowledge the vital historical, and future role, girls’ schools play in creating a fairer world for all. Join me at the ASCL conference on 8th March where I will take us on a journey through these 150 years, and present new research unpicking perceptions of equality for schoolgirls in areas such as business, politics, sport, and the home. Have we come far enough? How can educational leaders play a galvanising role in young women’s lives? How can schools act as a catalyst for positive societal change through empowering every young woman?

Our next Girls Rights Collective Wales event with the amazing Annie Chappell. Plan International UK, covers all costs to the training so it is free. Social Media, Technology and the Impact on Children and Young People’ There is no escaping the impact on technology on our lives, particularly after the lockdowns that forced us apart and into our homes. But technology and particularly social media, is so new that we're only just starting to understand what it means for humans, and particularly our children. This lecture will aim to look at: Where are we now? What types of technology and social media are our children engaging in / exposed to? In what ways is it impacting on our young people's brains? How does this show up in everyday life? How does it change the way children can relate to others and to the self? Is social media responsible for a decrease in self-worth and how does this manifest? Can we be addicted to technology? As the 'adults in charge' how do we support our young people to navigate this new world ? Book your space now - https://lnkd.in/eHw-JUFv

A organization's foundation is so important when serving the community to create a world of equity with a community driven mindset to improvement and results.
When parents speak up for what their children need in order for us to set their children up for success just listen. This advocacy for Girls in STEM Academy is not about school type however it is about parent choice (parents-the 1st and most important teacher) and equity! STEM related fields are heavily dominated by men and for many years, maybe some have believed that only young men were interested or qualified...statistics say, we are not creating, developing and empowering girls in STEM classes, skills, etc nor have we created a safe space for girls or women to step into male-dominated spaces with confidence. Let's create a space that some girls in Indy may need to see themselves for who they are: future doctors, scientists, architech, tech pioneers and BEYOND. Check the comments for ways you can support. "Girls that belong, grow to be strong"

Summer is upon us. For some young people, it’s a time away from school, a time to explore & relax. For others, it’s the contrary. Hear directly from young people about how we can develop a transformative vision of justice that is community-led, restorative & racially just. Let’s let young people lead the way. https://lnkd.in/eWqcGTVP #seeyouth #youth #youthjustice #youthjusticereform
