Last week during the inaugural GE Vernova’s Founders Leadership Meeting, we had the honor of hosting a virtual panel on #EnergySecurity with German Galushchenko, Minister of Energy of #Ukraine and Geoffrey Pyatt, Assistant Secretary, US Department of State and coordinator of the G7+ group for assistance to the energy sector of Ukraine. At the outset of the discussion, I shared my view that these may be the two most important leaders globally in navigating the challenges of energy security. Energy security is not a hypothetical or future issue. The discussion focused on how the war in Ukraine has been a fundamental game changer in the urgency of the world addressing the challenges of energy security and preparedness. As Minister Galuschenko shared, hours—not days or weeks—have made the difference in maintaining the grid for Ukraine’s people. As threats to #energy security emerge, we increasingly need to prepare to respond within hours, and have to be prepared to put into play a diverse suite of technologies to create resiliency against these challenges. We’ve learned a lot from our partnership with the Ukraine, US and EU governments on how to approach energy security threats both now in the future. As a result, the world increasingly is prioritizing energy security by investing in both manufacturing and a diverse suite of energy technologies. This prioritization aligns closely to GE Vernova’s portfolio and scale. We have a unique role to play today and in the #FutureOfEnergy. Beyond Ukraine, these are lessons we are using to solve for #ExtremeWeather events, #CyberSecurity, growing #demand, #variability and #grid readiness. 💡 Energoatom is among «Antifragility» rating leaders! SE «NNEGC «Energoatom» took second place in the «Light of Victory» nomination. The rating organizers highlighted that Energoatom employees ensure the power generation for the energy independence of Ukrainians in the most dangerous conditions. How were the winners selected? Initially, at the first stage, the Delo readers made a shortlist consisting of over 50 companies, which were chosen as a sample of stability, endurance, resilience and helping others based on the results of the editorial board meeting. And then 30 winning companies were divided according to seven nominations: «Light of Victory», «Food Front», «Cyber Protection», «Rear Support», «Nation's Health», «Road of Life», «Relocation and Recovery of the Year» – and the jury selected the best in each of them. For reference: the Delo news agency published the «Antifragility» rating, aimed at providing information about companies, which for 16 months after the outbreak of full-scale invasion keep working to help Ukrainians survive these challenging times. #standwithukraine #stoprussia #russiaisaterrorisstate

There has been a lot of talk in recent days about the southwest corner of our state and the many changes happening there. From the Terra Power project in Kemmerer to the future of the coal mines, the southwest corner is indeed experiencing interesting and uncertain times. The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services (DWS) is actively engaged with partner organizations such as Governor Mark Gordon’s Wyoming Innovation Partnership, Governor Gordon’s Nuclear Strategy Group, the Wyoming Workforce Development Council (WWDC), the Southwest Wyoming Manufacturing Partnership (Southwest Wyoming’s NextGen Sector Partnership), and business leaders and elected officials across the southwest corner of the state, collaborating to best address that area’s needs. DWS has put forth a budget request relating to the WyRelocate and Wyoming Grown programs, recognizing the need to bring more workers to Wyoming. Wyoming Grown spotlights Wyoming’s unmatched quality of life to help fill open job opportunities. Also, with the increase in new industries, especially in energy, rare earth materials, cybersecurity, and more, the WyRelocate program addresses the need for a larger population to help fill the jobs we see coming to Wyoming. The NextGen Sector Partners, such as the Southwest Wyoming Manufacturing Partnership, work with WWDC in identifying key growing industries, collaborating in the development of new education and training programs, and in building strong connections with Wyoming’s workforce and education systems. The sector partnerships take that a step further and highlight the ability of Wyoming’s state government and local institutions to work together with the private sector to advance economic vitality and diversification of the State’s regions. Russia's brutal aggression in Ukraine has not only caused devastation but has also triggered a fundamental reevaluation of geopolitics. Central to this new thinking is the role of #EnergySecurity and managing the vulnerabilities exposed by the conflict. According to Morgan Bazilian and Andreas Goldthau, "six key vectors will define a new energy security, namely: critical minerals, data science, justice and equity, a shift in capital, resilience in supply chains, and cybersecurity. Such a new energy security moves beyond a focus solely on supply and encompasses demand, institutions, and markets. It also moves convincingly beyond the standard definitions of availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability of that supply." Energy security is of significant importance to nations across the globe and has become even more relevant since Russia invaded Ukraine. Yesterday, Onur Özgün, Rune Torhaug, Al-Karim Govindji, Arve Johan Kalleklev, and I, had the pleasure of presenting energy security insights to NATO’s Political Committee at its Headquarters in Brussels. We shared data from our latest Energy Transition Outlook (ETO) which forecasts that clean energy will increase from today’s 20% share of the global energy mix to 52% in 2050. China's top energy official has called for more secrecy in the country’s energy sector to protect national security in an increasingly hostile international environment. -The European Union (EU) shifted away from Russian energy due to moral concerns and geopolitical reasons during the Ukraine conflict, causing a major energy crisis in Europe. -The EU successfully reduced its reliance on Russian energy sources like gas, largely through decreased gas pipeline imports and sabotage of pipelines. -Europe's energy crisis impacted global energy markets, pushing countries like China and India to turn to coal, which is harmful to climate goals. -To mitigate the energy crisis, the EU accelerated renewable energy projects, particularly in wind energy. -In the short term, Europe turned to liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports, mainly from the United States and Qatar, to address energy shortages. -The transition to LNG complicated Europe's emissions reduction efforts, as natural gas and even coal were used to meet energy demands. -EU nations invested substantial funds to stabilize energy prices, cushioning the impact of rising costs on households and businesses. -The energy crisis revealed the challenges of government involvement in energy markets, leading to political tensions and uncertainties. -Conservation efforts and industrial cutbacks reduced energy consumption, but record-high energy prices led to economic slowdowns, notably in Germany. -While the EU's shift from Russian energy was successful, it brought complex consequences, including increased global protectionism and challenges in securing energy from non-democratic nations. -Before the Ukraine conflict, Russia supplied about 40% of the gas consumed in Europe and up to 60% of the gas used in Germany. -Gas pipeline imports from Russia to Europe have fallen by four-fifths. -LNG imports to Europe rose by 70% in a year. -On average, Europeans paid 20% more on household electricity bills and 31% more for natural gas. -Germany spent over 10 billion euros ($11 billion) over the next 15 years to build LNG terminals. -Germany slipped into a technical recession in the first quarter of a certain year due to higher energy prices. #EnergyCrisis #EUShiftFromRussianEnergy #Geopolitics #ClimateImpact #RenewableEnergy #LNGImports #GlobalEnergyMarket #EuropeanEconomy #RussiaEURelations #EnergyTransition #EnergySecurity #ClimateChallenge #EnergyPrices #GeopoliticalShift #CoalVsRenewables #EnergyPolicy #EuropeEconomicImpact #EnergyIndependence #ClimateAction #EUEnergyStrategy
