Moments ago Lord Jordan, RoSPA Life President, delivered an oral question on road safety. Lord Jordan asked: "England’s previous Road Safety Strategy elapsed in 2019 meaning we are now the only country in mainland Britain and the G7 not to have a published road safety strategy. " "England, once a global beacon for road safety, is now seeing countries such as Finland and Sweden overtaking us. "My Lords, the government’s failure to act means that 1,711 people are killed and over 28,000 seriously injured on our roads every year. This is unacceptable! "Will the Government bring England in line with other G7 nations by committing to publish a new road safety strategy and national casualty reduction targets, now? And having published them, act on them? See video below:

Could not agree more. Is our Government satisfied that more than 135,000 people were killed or injured on UK roads last year alone (more than murder and terrorism combined)? Why are we tolerating this level of harm as the inevitable price of motorisation? When will we wake up and realise what a dire situation we are in? Until we take real action - Eg: Introduce mandatory speed limiters and other safety technology, punish road criminals more heavily, use enforcement more tactically, introduce Graduated Driving Licensing, tighten our licensing system and STOP treating driving as a right instead of a privilege, we are wilfully allowing people to die on our roads. #RoadDeath #EnoughIsEnough #Victims #Suffering #Bereavement

The value of preventing collisions and casualties in the UK in 2022 was estimated at £43.2 billion, that is £830 million every week. The value of preventing one death is £2.25 million, however, the loss of a life and the impact it has on family and friends can never be measured that way. We achieved a 50% reduction on road deaths between 2003 & 2012 and just 1% between 2013 & 2022. The strategic framework for road safety in 2011 had no target. This is not a coincidence. Why have "priorities changed"? The last 10 years has sadly been a massive missed opportunity to reduce the burden road trauma places on society and to release police, fire, health and social care resources to tackle other important priorities. Road Safety in GB we no longer have any strategy, no targets, no standards and no ideas. Just a mish mash of various organisations, trying to do their best, with no joint up thinking.

Health and Safety Leader | Chartered Engineer | Energy Transition Facilitator | Offshore Operations | Security & Resilience | Aviation Safety | Mentor | Board Member - SPE Aberdeen!
Yesterday morning I awoke to the shocking pictures and video showing the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. The vulnerability of structures to impact loads was laid starkly before us in this tragedy which is assumed to have taken six lives. The increase in size of container ships in the last 50 years is mirrored with offshore installation supply boats where impact energies have the potential to be significant. In offshore energies this increase in risk has been known for some time and is managed effectively using a suite of industry standards, training and documentation, from Offshore Energies UK Ship / Installation Collision Risk Avoidance guidance currently being refreshed in collaboration with Marine Safety Forum, Step Change in Safety Marine Operations: 500m safety zone guidelines, and OPITO global training standards on Safety zones. Nevertheless learning from other incidents outside of our sector remains important and encourages our continued vigilance. #baltimore #francisscottkey #bridgecollapse #marinesafety #safetyzones #collisionavoidance #collisionriskmanagement #collisionriskavoidance #crossindustrylearning #incidentinvestigation

Every September marks #NationalPreparednessMonth! It's the annual recognition to remind every American how important it is to prepare for #disasters and #emergencies that can happen at any time. At Guice Offshore (“GO”), our motto is always “GO Safely,” which represents our internal commitment of choosing to follow #safety rules and procedures versus having to follow them. This creates a mindset that is intolerant of any level of injury and cultivates a #workplace culture of caring for our fellow employees to ensure everyone goes home safely each day. Guice Offshore vessels often play a critical role in #waterway cleanup and #coastal #disasterrecovery. Our year-around dedication to safety and #preparedness is part of why we've compiled many of the helpful FEMA and Ready.gov resources designed for individuals, families, businesses and communities at GuiceOffshore.com/News here: https://lnkd.in/evdEcePh This year's #NPM2023 theme "Take Control in 1, 2, 3" is especially geared toward older adults. What does tragedy teach us? Whether it’s in our own port industry, or in the broader maritime space, there are two nouns which, when combined, create a chilling image for anyone who knows what they refer to: Byford Dolphin. In the ever-evolving maritime realm, the echoes of history continue to shape our present and future, especially in terms of safety. Reflecting upon the chilling Byford Dolphin Diving Bell Incident, we're reminded of the pivotal role that safety standards play in any industry. It is historically-tragic incidents such as these which make it apparent why stringent safety measures are essential. These standards aren't arbitrary; they're “written in blood”, respectfully speaking. In the past, our industry has sometimes taken a somewhat reactive stance at times, responding to incidents after they occurred. However, it’s not hard to see that significant shifts and progress have occurred, emphasising a proactive approach. Through painstaking efforts and collaboration, the port industry has been transforming its safety landscape. It's important to recognise that safety regulations aren't limitations; they're safeguards, preventing potential disasters and preserving human lives. Generations ahead will refer to the recent “Titan Incident” in much the same way, I believe…….. https://lnkd.in/gQaJcDUD #Trent #MaritimeSafety #SafetyStandards #BusinessInsight #maritime

Sometimes you just have to change up the social media strategy and try something new. Go take a look at my bad dad joke on the Ferreira Construction Co., Inc. page now! #socialmedia #digitalmarketing #dadjokes #socialmediastrategy
Why did the gopher turtle become the construction site's favorite worker in Florida? Because it had an unbeatable work ethic - always digging into projects with "turtley" determination, and it never "shelled" out on the job! 🐢🏗️😄 On one of our job sites down in Florida, our crews encountered a gopher turtle while on site. Crews immediately stopped and called Environmentalists to remove the turtle safely.
