Have you ever thought about what sort of legacy you'll leave? It's fairly safe to say that most of us would like to be talked about as someone who made a real impact in supporting the quality of the lives of people in the community. Will you be somebody who actively contributed to bettering the lives of others? There are a number of ways to achieve this but you might consider starting the journey by following a career in Aged Care. Our Aged Care team talk about what a privilege it is to work with older adults and how rewarding they find their roles. They talk about how much they learn from their client's life experience and how it connects them with a world they often knew very little about. Passionate Inclusion Advocate | Creating Accessible Communities | Trainer | Public Speaker | Empowering Positive Change
✨ "It was a life-changing moment, but it wasn't life-ending." ✨ Incredibly grateful to 7NEWS Australia for sharing my personal journey. From a life-altering accident during a university touch football game to embarking on a mission of advocacy and accessibility – it’s been a ride filled with challenges, learning, and immense growth. My story serves as a testament that a life-changing event doesn’t equate to a life-ending one. Over the years, I've realised that while my accident may have introduced physical barriers, it has also instilled a resolve to overcome societal barriers – especially those faced in employment by individuals with disabilities. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), only 48% of Australians aged 15 to 64 with a disability are employed. Such figures are disheartening, especially when considering the vast untapped potential that lies within this demographic. For businesses out there, hiring someone with a disability isn't just about doing the "right thing." It's about recognising the unique perspectives, resilience, and values these individuals bring to the table. By fostering more inclusive workplace environments, we not only advance societal values but also reap significant business benefits. My message is simple: Let's challenge and change our attitudes. Let's strive for inclusivity, break down stereotypes, and harness the potential of all. After all, accessibility is a journey, and it often starts with a single step of understanding and acceptance.
