People are calling AIR on Prime Video a top 5 Sports movie ever made. I think it actually has very little to do with Sports, and it's a top movie about Sales as a profession. I understand why it was marketed as a movie revolving around THE AIR JORDAN and not how to sell, but hear me out. Coming from the startup world of sales there are moments where the deal you are trying to create is a two-way street but you have to put your neck on the line. Maybe the client is new to the market, has mediocre credit, or is not bashful about exploring other options. At the time of this movie Nike's basketball division was experiencing layoffs and was a real startup division that couldn't make any mistakes. When negotiating with Michael Jordan the team in the movie had to show value, show a unique product (within a few business days), and work with a coveted but underrated client who's MOTHER is his CFO! They did all of this while working with the smallest amount of budget and resources compared to the competition. They had to find a two way street, while having the foresight to not split the difference. They had to disrupt the entire landscape, for the better. I remember seeing some game film in the movie, but the only dunk I really saw was when the lead character Sonny, played by Matt Damon, gave a speech at the end to maaaaaaayyyyybeeee (no spoilers) close the deal. See it for yourself. It's a great sales movie. #Air #AirJordan #Damon #WatchIt #Sales
