Thank you Senator Laphonza Butler for your support of the Right to Contraception Act and uplifting the perspectives of youth and the importance of contraceptive access for young people in California and nationwide. “Access to contraception is not just a health issue—it's a lifeline for our autonomy and future. Access to contraception is about giving us the power to shape our destinies. When we have the tools to manage our health, we can stay in school, build stable families, and contribute positively to our communities. The ability to get contraception enables us to lead healthier, more productive lives and achieve our dreams. It’s about fostering personal responsibility, stability, and economic self-reliance,” said Martin Orea and Emily Oh, incoming first-year college students and Youth Health Equity + Safety Ambassadors with Essential Access Health. Today marks two years since the Supreme Court overturned #Roe. The impact of the decision continues to be devastating and widespread with over 21 states enacting abortion bans and severe restrictions – threatening the health and well-being of millions, and disproportionately harming Black, Indigenous and People of Color, LGBTQIA+ folks, young people, immigrants, and people living in rural areas. And now, they are coming for #birthcontrol. Eight states have introduced bills to restrict access. We were proud to join Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, and partners TEACH, Reproductive Freedom for All, ACLU of Northern California, and Planned Parenthood Northern California #FutureofAbortionCouncil to commemorate this stark anniversary, and call for the Right to Contraception Act to be brought up for a vote in the House. #BansOffOurBodies #HandsOffMyBC

This week, Essential Access was proud to stand with Mayor London Breed and other Bay Area champions in support of the Reproductive Freedom Act, a measure put forth by Mayor Breed. If approved by San Francisco voters this November, the ballot measure will strengthen city and county policies related to reproductive health access, justice, and freedom. “As states across the country continue to enact callous and cruel abortion bans and restrictions, in California and San Francisco, we have an opportunity and responsibility, to use every tool possible to protect and expand access to essential health services. This measure builds on San Francisco’s long history of taking bold action in support of equity and justice and provides a model for other jurisdictions to adopt and adapt. We urge San Franciscans to support reproductive health and rights and thank Mayor Breed for her leadership,” said Amy Moy, Co-CEO, Essential Access Health. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g3bPaYr9

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously blocked the challenge to revoke the FDA’s approval of mifepristone and asserted that the anti-abortion plaintiffs lacked standing to sue. This case was outrageous and baseless from the start. Mifepristone has a proven track record of being safe and effective for over twenty years and medication abortion accounted for nearly two-thirds of all abortions in the U.S. last year. This isn’t the end. Policymakers on the state and federal levels need to push for protective policies and ensure that everyone can get the essential and time-sensitive health care they need, when they need it, without barriers. https://lnkd.in/daD546wj

Today is the 59th anniversary of #Griswold vs. Baird 🎉, the #SCOTUS decision that granted married couples the legal right to use birth control and the right to privacy in family planning. It’s absurd that decades later, the right to birth control is still up for debate. Birth control means bodily autonomy and bodily freedom, so that people can control their own lives and futures. #BansOffOurBodies #GratefulForGriswold
