It’s been a tough year for renewable energy stocks, including NextEra Energy Resources. But, they just posted a historic Q3 in terms of origination. "NextEra Energy Resources had its best renewables and storage origination quarter in its history, adding approximately 3,245 megawatts to its backlog, which now totals over 21 gigawatts, net of projects placed in service," said CEO John Ketchum. Interest rates might be squeezing margins, but the demand for renewables remains strong as electrification and data center growth power demand. #renewableenergy #solar #wind #batterystorage #energytransition https://lnkd.in/gviRgFpZ

The need for long-duration energy storage has become more apparent as renewables occupy a greater share of the grid. Thankfully, it's finally getting the attention it deserves. Form Energy recently reached deals with Xcel Energy, Southern Company and Great River Energy for its long-duration systems. The DOE hasn't let the issue go unnoticed either, announcing funding opportunities this week worth $30 million for energy storage. The opportunities include $15 million for innovations in long-duration energy storage technology reliability and another $15 million for what the department calls "pre-competitive" systems, or those not yet ready for commercial adoption. #energytransition #storage #batterystorage #renewableenergy

Poised for hypergrowth! Fluence President and CEO Julian Nebreda spoke with CNBC following this Thursday’s first quarter earnings call, noting Fluence’s record backlog that is projected to push us to profitability this year. As detailed in the article, Nebreda said Fluence is preparing for "hypergrowth" as the clean energy transition accelerates and renewables play a growing role in the U.S. power grid. Among other applications, our energy storage technology unlocks the potential of renewables by storing the energy collected during the day for later use when consumption peaks in the evening. "Our technology is fundamental to ensure that we can all take advantage of the great benefits of renewables," said Nebreda. Fluence is well-positioned to continue delivering for our customers globally as we work together to accelerate the global clean energy transition. The second phase consultation of the Review of Electricity Market Arrangements (REMA), was published yesterday (12 March 2024), Michelle Stephens, Generation Services Sales Manager at npower Business Solutions, comments on what it could mean for independent generators: “Among headline-grabbing measures, such as the need to build new gas-fired power plants to support the intermittency of renewables and a proposed move to zonal pricing, there was also an important development in the REMA consultation for Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs). “In this second consultation, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has recognised the important role CPPAs can play in decarbonising the energy system, supporting the development of renewables, and meeting business demand for clean energy. DESNZ is right to highlight how CPPAs can benefit both consumers and developers of low carbon generation, by saying that the market has ‘largely been driven by corporate interest in power supply decarbonisation and demand for long-term price certainty’. “Therefore, while the first REMA consultation did not include explicit consideration of CPPAs, the feedback DESNZ received from across the energy industry and corporate energy users demonstrated how important they will be in driving the deployment of renewables. “As part of the second phase consultation, it is asking for views on how the government could help the CPPA market grow, how the REMA reforms will impact this, and the potential barriers to this growth. It is vital that independent generators have their say, to both support the growth of the CPPA market and showcase the role they will play in the UK’s long term ambitions for a secure and sustainable energy system.”

Pioneering moments in renewable energy are lighting the path for hashtag #CleanEnergyFuture! Just like Engie, who successfully decoupled a power plant in Chile with their battery energy storage system (BESS), converting it entirely to renewable energy - a crucial step towards 100% clean energy. Yet, one important factor often overlooked is the essential role of batteries in ensuring 24/7 availability of clean energy. As we transition to renewables, how well are we utilizing battery technologies for uninterrupted power? Are we storing solar energy during the day and harnessing wind energy during the night? Does our BESS satisfy our energy demand efficiently and sustainably? Challenging questions, indeed, that only battery storage experts can answer. Time to reflect on where your company stands in its journey to hashtag #energyindependence and the role BESS plays in your clean energy game plan. Reach out to professionals, like me, in the hashtag #RenewableEnergy sector to help navigate your business's energy transformation.
