ECPAT Philippines, our hotline of the month, has been instrumental in shaping the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act 11930, legislation targeting online child sexual exploitation and abuse (OCSEA). Their efforts highlighted persistent gaps in addressing this issue, emphasising the necessity of the Act's enactment. The signing of this legislation is a significant step as it includes important provisions such as gender-responsive guidelines, enhanced roles of internet intermediaries, child-centric referral pathways, database standardisation, and community involvement. Additionally, it mandates support for parents in understanding online child safety and reporting incidents of abuse. ECPAT International condemns the LIBE Committee's compromise as a threat to child safety online. Amy Crocker, Head of Child Protection and Technology at ECPAT International, says: "Today's decision is a setback for all children, contradicting the expectations of European citizens and, more critically, actively undermining their safety in digital spaces." 👉Add your voice to the ones of child rights advocates: https://lnkd.in/gNNVWXss Together, let’s call on EU policymakers to prevent and combat child sexual abuse online effectively. #ECPAT #ChildSafetyON

Last week, our legal intern Christabel Simamba attended the 24th OSCE Conference of the Alliance Against Trafficking in Persons. Here’s some of her key takeaways from the session on child rights and supply chains - looking at understanding the nexus between children's rights and human rights due diligence. There is a need for businesses to: ❏ Recognise the critical overlap between children's rights and broader human rights due diligence in global supply chains. ❏ Foster an exchange of strategies aimed at identifying, preventing, and addressing child labour and trafficking risks. ❏ Encourage collaboration and sharing of best practices among stakeholders to develop effective measures for mitigating risks and protecting children in supply chains. Thank you to the panelists, for their insightful strategies and perspectives on identifying, preventing, and addressing child labour and trafficking risks. Katherine Chon from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Elisabeth Andvig from UNICEF, Kerstin Dohnal from ECPAT Austria, and Marianne Neumüller-Klapper from Nespresso Austria. #cthb24 #humanrights #supplychainduediligence #humanrightsduediligence https://bit.ly/4deZyaW
