You should know: Threads uses ActivityPub, which is the same protocol that Mastodon uses. Threads doesn't federate ("interact") with Mastodon—and the rest of the Fediverse—at launch, but it will soon. Using Threads instead of Mastodon means joining the same network of people, but freely giving up all of your private data (and everyone you interact with), seeing ads, and—yet again—giving power to a company that continues to endlessly exploit us all. Facebook's monopoly is terrible for all of us, but in this *very specific* case, that massive influence happened to be a good thing, because it's bringing ActivityPub into the mainstream. Still, it makes no sense for you to opt into a Facebook-owned platform, when you could interact with everyone in the Fediverse. In fact, you're worse off right now because you can only interact with those who signed up on Threads. We should know by now how platforms rise and die: "First, they are good to their users; then they abuse their users to make things better for their business customers; finally, they abuse those business customers to claw back all the value for themselves. Well, I think we all knew a crackdown on ridiculously scaled AI content was coming (didn't we?) All the talk of de-indexations is taking me back to the days of the first Penguin rollout (back when we used to give Google algorithm updates super-cool animal names!) But it seems to me that Google has replaced AI content with results from Reddit at the moment (G just made a deal with Reddit to show more content from it). Along with more useful results for me from StackOverflow. So this news that we might be getting a new Forums tab in Google isn't too surprising. What's your view on more results from forums?
