In Q4 2022, I met with 20 of my employees back to back and had to let them go. One after the other. My reckless decisions didn't just f*ck me over. They screwed my team too. We grew too quickly. I had to cut nearly 40% of our staff that day. It was a brutal lesson. But I share it now after a long time reflecting... Putting bread on the table for people is a great feeling. (Addictive, even!) But it's not so nice when you have to take it away. Before adding bodies to solve your problems. Be sure you’ve found product-market fit. Start small → Build lean → Secure runway. Scale at the right speed with the right incentives for people. No company or Founder is invincible. It doesn't matter how 'promising' your growth is looking. Don't run before you can walk.
i fell prey to this in 2021 and paid the price in 2022. Thanks for sharing.
'Don't run before you can walk' is a great reminder for entrepreneurs and leaders. Thank you for sharing your story

1moWow, that's brutally honest and incredibly valuable. Growing a business feels like flying high until gravity kicks in. Your story is a stark reminder that sometimes slowing down is the best way to speed up. It's about finding that sweet spot where growth meets sustainability. Thanks for turning your tough lessons into gold nuggets.
