Last week, we had a brown-bag session where Max Irendorfer shared his knowledge and expertise on how to use the powerful design tool Figma to create designs and prototypes that are maintainable and scalable. During the session, he showed us how to use features like components, variants, and animations, as well as how we can apply development principles to establish a systematic approach to working on the canvas. Max also gave insight into new Figma features such as Dev Mode and variables. Here are some highlights we learned about #Figma and want to share with you: 📏 Autolayout is a powerful feature for creating responsive elements. 🧩 Considering UI components and their variants early in the design process leads to a more maintainable design file that is also more convenient to use during implementation. 🔠 With variables, we are now able to not only keep styles more consistent between design and code but also create realistic and advanced prototypes. 🚀 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟯 - 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 🚀 Are you “𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗔” or “𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗕”? Before we got into Figma, I think most of you would agree that we were big fans of Adobe tools like Photoshop and Illustrator. We didn't really bother with renaming or grouping because the auto-select feature helped us find our layers easily. But think about it this way, when your desk's a jumble, finding anything becomes a treasure hunt, right? That's where the trusty pen holder comes in, keeping all our writing tools in check, or the cable organizer for grabbing the right cord when you need it. Isn't that just like grouping? Making life simpler, giving everything a cozy home to find easily? Next is Renaming and this is where the fun part comes in, naming the groups! It's like telling a story. Picture this: "Option B," and you've got the tale of three main sub auto layouts, ❇️ Header Stack,  ❇️ Results Stack,  ❇️ Footer Stack, All neatly nestled with their subgroups. 2 days ago, I completed the Adobe XD wireframing and prototyping crash course by @designcoursecom And, I hope I don't start a riot, but I prefer Adobe XD to figma. Here's why... ...First of all, abobe XD just feels lighter. Using feels like completing an asignment with a close friend or classmate. But figma is so packed with features (a good thing btw) that after looking at it for too long my brain starts to get overwhelmed, and i have to take a break. All in all they're both really good. In my opinion XD is good for small projects and practice, while figma is built for complexity and collaboration.
