May 1st marks the beginning of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM) in the US and Canada. In the coming weeks, we’ll be spotlighting the contributions that Googlers of Asian and Pacific Islander (API) descent have made to our workplace, products, and society at large. Throughout the month, we’ll also be showcasing events and activities designed to bring API Googlers together and help cultivate belonging here at Google. Throughout my career, many of my colleagues have been on an H1B visa. I have never once heard one of them speak positively of the program; and I am not interested in discussing the politics of whether you personally believe in the merits of this program or not. This post exists for me to say - if ever you have a candidate who would require visa sponsorship apply for a position - please remember that you are likely speaking to a well educated multi-lingual cosmopolitan who has taken on personal financial risk to travel to your door to work, and that this tenacity is in and of itself an admirable trait in an employee. Please consider job candidates who would require visa sponsorship.
