I've been thinking about how destination marketing has been able to grow due to digital transformation, and specifically how online travel communities could wield a significant influence on the world of tourism. For example, TikTok's major influence on marketing has shown just how much online spaces can influence people's choices. In the national study of TikTok users earlier this year, 60% said they have become interested in visiting a new destination (city, beach, park, etc.) after seeing a TikTok video about it. That's a big percentage! It makes me think about the impact digitization has had on the industry... but we also need to be aware of the fact that people are experiencing content overdrive and that certain destination marketing values may be lost in the constant immediacy that certain platforms offer- can this easily accessible daily content reach a point where it doesn't offer value anymore, or will it continue to serve as a tool that benefits destination marketing? Tourism heavily relies on marketing strategy and tactics. Ongoing marketing content (such as social media activity, blogs, case studies and videography) have huge impacts on holiday goers' booking decisions. Millions of people turn to online content to help them pick their next holiday destination, day trip and UK staycation. As a travel or tourism organisation, marketing content should engage, educate and influence potential customers when they are researching and looking for inspiration for their next trip. Done well, tourism marketing should be: 📸 leveraging captivating visuals to give audiences insight into how their holiday could look both internally (properties, hotels, etc) and within the local vicinity ✏️ weaving compelling narratives around the destination (stories unfolding, history, current “to do” lists) 🎯 targeting a demographic, so content lands with an audience who are likely be interested in your services 📈 contributing to the local economy, and in turn, the tourism growth of a city/country #tourismmarketing #tourism #marketing #contentmarketing
