We always promulgate for Selling Value. But what is Value? Here, a painting first auctioned for $1,175 in 2005 and was last auctioned in Christie's for $450 million in 2017. This is a classic case where Value is often not what we think they are. The value of the painting is not in the painting itself but in the Power and Prestige from owning the painting - a point that Christie's managed to capture and capitalize to maximize its price. https://lnkd.in/gyqWTBhS

Examples are: Paintings 🖼 Sculptures ⛲ Rare books 📖 Manuscripts 📰 Coins 💰 Medals 🎖 Antique furniture 🛋 One benefit of listing certain contents in this section on your proposal form are lower premiums because Fine Art is rated at a lower premium than contents for most insurers. If you list a £10k painting, for example under your general contents it is possible that you would not be covered for the full amount in the event of a claim depending on the policy limits. We're days away from our inaugural Garden Party Brunch & Silent Art Auction, and the central event is definitely the local art we'll have available for sale. A couple notes: 1. Art shown in these promotional posts only shows small portions of larger works (i.e. a section of a painting, photograph, or other piece) and for most artists featured shows art of theirs **not necessarily part of our show** (but previously sold or showcased by them). This is specifically to protect the artist and their work from theft/copyright infringement. 2. All proceeds from art sold will be shared between CCVLP and the artist, because it's important to us as an organization that we support (financially) the work of our local artists. With that said, it's time then to start meeting the artists, thinking about what art resonates with you, and scoping out your walls, mantels and shelves for the best places to put your new additions. Meet Robert Grove. Robert's medium is "photogravure", which is a form of etching a metal plate with a photographic image. Robert says: "The image begins as a photograph which is creatively altered to more closely reproduce the artist's interpretation of the original scene. Once inked, the plate and paper are passed through an etching press creating a print." Does Robert's art speak to you? Kazakina says: "Right now, you can find a painting, a drawing, or a sculpture at auction for a fraction of what it would cost at a gallery." It's not news that there has been a correction to the market for some artists, but I don't see a sea change either. Even in the hottest of markets, there have always been many artists whose works command much higher prices in the primary market than they will ever realize at auction -- or in any other secondary market for that matter. Conversely, there are also presently quite a few artists with long waiting lists for coveted primary-market gallery offerings at lower prices than those realized at auction. Taste changes, as it always has, and the names in demand are not necessarily the same as those from 10, 5, or even 2 years ago. https://lnkd.in/e2awbP3s

Christie's London Auction Breaks Records, and the Art World is Buzzing Christie's London held its latest auction on October 14, 2023, and the results were nothing short of mind-blowing. The auction totaled over £1 billion, with several works of art selling for record prices. One of the biggest headlines was the sale of a painting by Claude Monet called "Grainstack at Sunset." The painting sold for £68 million, making it the most expensive Monet painting ever sold at auction. Another notable sale was the sale of a sculpture by Auguste Rodin called "The Thinker." The sculpture sold for £52 million, making it the most expensive Rodin sculpture ever sold at auction. As a person who loves art, antiques, and vintage, I was thrilled to see these results. It's clear that the art market is still alive and well, and people are still appreciating the beauty and value of art. What are your thoughts on the auction results?
