It’s no secret that we are at a tipping point if humanity continues to fall short of taking meaningful action to address pressing existential issues like climate change and biodiversity loss. And whilst AI is not a sole solution, it is helping to accelerate action and remove barriers to progress. To coincide with Earth Month 2024, Microsoft asked us to create a campaign that would highlight the pivotal role AI can play in addressing key sustainability issues. Its tone is hopeful and pragmatic, highlighting the tangible changes that AI is helping to implement. In the Amazon, for example, AI is being used to analyse satellite images to detect early signs of illegal logging. In water scarce areas, AI is detecting and locating leaks in drinking water supplies. AI can’t solve all our problems. But it can help us take more meaningful action, faster.
