Chief Executive Officer I Mozilla Corporation

I joined Mozilla Corporation as a board member 3 years ago, thrilled for the opportunity to be a part of a team making a big difference. Mozilla has a powerful legacy of shaping the internet for the better, and is uniquely positioned to continue to do so. And that really matters ... this role is more important today than it has ever been. Over that time, I have been impressed and inspired by the passion of the team, and their dedication to the mission.  Today, I am looking forward to coming in as CEO, as we continue to work hard to build a better Internet ... an internet that is not dominated by negativity and divisiveness, but that celebrates, embodies and supports our deepest hopes for human progress. A huge thank you to Mitchell Baker for the leadership she has provided, for her support in bringing me onboard, and (in advance) for her ongoing partnership as we work together on Mozilla’s future and creating a healthier digital world for us all. #mozilla #healthyInternet #opensourcecommunity #leadership

Congratulations Laura Chambers! Exciting times ahead. Reading the second key goal … > 2. Outstanding Execution: Focus, Processes, Capabilities: Doubling down on our core products, like Firefox, and building out our capabilities and innovation pipeline to bring new compelling products to market. … I really hope Firefox 🧡 and its community get some much-needed attention and more focus (and resources?) being Mozilla's core product. There are so many features (tab grouping, PWA support, better tablet interface ...) that could retain the existing user base and attract new users from Chrome/Edge! May I also suggest getting in touch with the community through an account on Mozilla's own Mastodon instance (https://mozilla.social)? Kind regards from a loyal Firefox user (16+ years).

Quote: "More consistently representing Mozilla in the public – With a focus on policy, open source, and community — through speaking and direct engagement with the community..." This is the right spot! Engagement with the community is the way to go. I doubt there's anyone that wouldn't like a unified solution for both mobile and desktop browsing experience with all the syncing and privacy capabilities Firefox offers. But we are frustrated by the number of unadressed community ideas and bug reports that have been there for years without a proper priority evaluation by the staff. It's the voting system that is engaged but yet it is not effective to my opinion. There are many examples - Android tabbed browsing for larger displays - all the competitors implemented that feature years ago, but Firefox developers direct people from Google Play to the community platform where this "idea" has been proposed years ago without any action taken. What's more, this was a removed feature when tablets had their decline in popularity in the past. What I'm saying is just to support your statement that focus on the community is very important for the future success. Congratulations and all the best to you and Mozilla's projects!

Relevancy is adapting to changing market conditions. Mozilla needs to grow beyond the browser to remain relevant. When large brands are in this scenario, I'm surprised by how long it seems to take them to finally go back to their mission statement - it's why it's there. Aligned with "promoting openness, innovation & opportunity on the Web" are ideas like: Build an open assistant with proper privacy safe guards Build or integrate an open platform for social networking Create an open platform for communication Create an alternative to Android or at least try to force an app store in place of Google's dominance Make a safe place for storing data with a zero-knowledge platform for data stored That being said, this news is part of the change needed to get there 🚀

Mozilla has been an AWESOME company since its start! Who remembers Netscape? :) Especially when Microsoft was first getting big?
