Thanks to the volunteers at Neuberger Berman for helping to plant the garden at Kensington Family Shelter. 🪴 They beautified the grounds in front of the shelter and also planted herbs for the residents to harvest through the summer. ☀️ #communitygarden #CAMBAwhereyoucan

Do you know it's National Pollinator Week? As a young child, I loved lying in a meadow near my home, hidden by the long grass and wildflowers. I would spend hours watching the insects, caterpillars, butterflies, fascinated by all their different shapes, colours, interactions and stages of development. David Bellamy was my hero. In recent years, I enjoyed my role as a Trustee for Buglife, where I was able to learn more about invertebrates, pollinators, the importance and impact of government policies on our environment, and so much more. DEFRA statistics show the status of pollinating insects in the UK has been in decline since 1980. Pollinators are an essential support of our food supply chain as well as our economy. The value of insect pollination has been put at £400 million to the UK economy (England Biodiversity Indicators 2022). What can we do to support our pollinators and help them thrive? There's a useful link in this article from Bumblebee Conservation Trust. Is your garden space like their left or right-hand example? Mine is definitely right-hand - "weeds" aka wildflowers are encouraged in my garden, alongside my other plants. Individuals and organisations may also be interested to take a look at Buglife's B-Lines (https://lnkd.in/eG_sTcRa) - could you donate? Improve your workspace by making a roof or terrace area more bee-friendly? #environment #food #conservation #economy #BeeTheChange
We're delighted to share a NEW blog all about our fabulous #BeeTheChange exhibit, which won a silver-gilt medal at RHS Chelsea Flower Show last month! Step into the garden 👉 https://ow.ly/oVS250OSSkL We share the planting list, how to create nesting and hibernation spots, and lots more top tips for turning your patch into a haven for the UK's struggling bumblebees. 🐝 🙏 The Trust worked with Ground Control to develop our 2023 exhibit. When we said San Antonians were impressive, we were not being fair. ⭐️💥 SAN ANTONIANS ROCK!!!!! 💥⭐️ San Antonians and kind folks from other parts of the country did it again! The number of online comments this time is unprecedented, and it broke the record. We shall remember animals have magic and people love them, especially Americans. San Antonians are no different and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. We sincerely ask you to take your time to read these comments. All these people who left a comment online are passionately informing the governing body of their views and their values with knowledge, real experiences from their neighborhoods or volunteering. This is an important function, and it is critical for the elected officials to listen with care to the public, and to consider what they hear in their deliberations. Let’s find out later if the officials read those comments. [Stay tuned for Call To Action] We agree that it's un-American to kill healthy, treatable and adoptable animals. It's a choice to save lives of animals and we are asking ACS to make the right choice. It IS possible for ACS to become a no-kill shelter and for San Antonio to become a no-kill city! Shelters across the United States have embraced the no-kill movement and made the impossible possible. It CAN be done. When we read these comments, it’s hard to draw the conclusion that ACS is currently doing their best. The San Antonio shelter pets deserve better and they are relying on us all to keep speaking up for them! There is only one way to go from here and that’s forward. San Antonio, let’s keep going! ➡️ ➡️ ➡️ #sanantoniocandobetter #sanantoniomillenials #sanantoniocares #sanantoniospurs #sanantoniopetlovers #sanantoniotravel #sanantoniotourism #sanantoniodogs #sanantoniocats #sanantonio #sanantoniotexas #keepgoing

East Sussex WRAS has a new talk available for community groups all about deer. Looking at the charity helping to deal with injured and entangled deer. It covers basic biology, identification, distribution, and the types of incidents which WRAS has attended over the last 25 year. The picture is quite bleak for deer in East Sussex with hundreds being destroyed on the county's roads each year. However roads are not the only problem they face, especially as we develop on more green spaces causing the number of deer found in towns to increase. Sadly there are very few facilities in the UK where deer can be admitted and treated. This is a very informative talk featuring some very dramatic videos and photos of deer dealt with by East Sussex WRAS. The talk is not suitable for some younger or very sensitive people as the talk shows real rescue footage of WRAS rescuers helping deer. The talk does not show any graphic injuries. This is one of three talks now available to book for community groups: 1) The Work of East Sussex WRAS 2) Hedgehog Awareness & Rescue 3) Deer Awareness & Rescue These talks are approximately 1 hour long. Check out the latest fees on our website at https://lnkd.in/eaM8f3SC We do not currently have a suitable talk available for primary school children but are working on this for the future. To book call 01825-873003 or e-mail [email protected] with some possible dates, times, the location and number of people likely to be present.

Like people, mice and rats need food, water and shelter to survive. Our Community Development team offers these tips to prevent rats and mice in and around your property: -Use rodent-proof garbage cans with tight-fitting lids to eliminate food supply. -Don’t leave pet food out overnight. -Clean up pet droppings daily. -If you have a bird feeder, place it at least 48 inches above ground level. It should be kept clean and never be overfilled. -Remove material and tall vegetation that could be used for shelter. Trim weeds and brush and keep grass short to minimize cover and food sources. -All building materials, lumber, boxes, firewood and similar items should be stored either on rat-proof paved areas or stacked 18 inches above the ground.

Many well-intentioned people see an unfamiliar cat outdoors and automatically assume the animal is homeless—and needs to come to your shelter pronto! But that’s not always in the cat’s (or your shelter’s) best interests. Help guide people through the steps they should take when they come across an unfamiliar cat: Download the fact sheet at https://bit.ly/3taVS8a. 🐱 #LostCat #CommunityCats #FactSheet
