❓ Did you know that the Australian platypus is one of the most unique and interesting animals in the world? Here are five facts about this loveable creature!
☠️ 1. Delivered with their poisonous spurs, Platypus venom is one of the few known venomous substances produced by mammals, making them one of the only poisonous animals in Australia.
🦈 2. Similar to a shark, the platypus relies on electronic signals to sense underwater prey and navigate through the murky depths of its habitat.
💡 3. Discovered by accident by American scientists, the Platypus actually glows with a faint biofluorescence and we still don't quite know why.
🌙 4. Platypuses are nocturnal and spend most of their time hunting for food underwater which includes insect larvae, freshwater shrimps, worms and yabbies.
🤿 5. They are excellent swimmers and can hold their breath for up to two minutes underwater while using their bill as a snorkel.
