With his organization Afghan Girls Success Gate, Aman has helped to educate over 600 girls and women in Afghanistan in the fields of language, literacy, and mental health. "With the dawn of Taliban rule came the implementation of harsh policies, particularly against Afghan women, I couldn't sit idly by while my sisters and fellow Afghan women faced oppression and discrimination." #ChannelKindness #BeKind365 #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth

According to UNICEF 1 in 5 girls do not complete primary school with nearly 4 in 10 girls not finishing secondary school. In many global regions these statistics around the girl-child are even more dismal. In almost *every* country, patriarchy and power dynamics provide boys advantages over girls. These advantages begin small and gain size and momentum over time. I am currently working on a pilot project in conjunction with Next Step Foundation. Upili Project endeavors to support Girls with Disabilities---individuals who are among the world’s most marginalized youth. These Girl-Children are burdened by “double disadvantage”: * societal attitudes towards women * stigmas around Persons with Disabilities. Today let's pause to educate ourselves. https://lnkd.in/g3rfSrQm Tomorrow let's dig in and do the work. https://lnkd.in/gccmDUYs Mariam Ndegwa #storytelling #africa

I read so many inspiring stories of different women today in the news, but the stories of Mary Maker, Aisha Khurram and other refugee women in the UNHRC page impacted me. I hope more stories like those may inspire, empower women and bring more actions to educate girls and women fleeing war, poverty and conflicts. #unhcr #refugees #educategirls #internationalwomensday https://lnkd.in/dvvPagB5
I had to flee for my education, but refused to leave other Afghan girls to their fate

𝐎𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥: 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐀’𝐬 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐬 In a region where poverty, human rights abuses, gender inequality, and conflict impact millions of lives, education can bring hope for a better future. But as the world marks the International Day of Education (24 January), over 15 million children in the Middle East and North Africa are not in school. And the ongoing war in the Holy Land is preventing even more children's access to learning. Education is a universal human right that should be shielded from the chaos of war. INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD: Investing in Girls' Futures Today, on International Day of the Girl Child, I celebrate the girls of the world and their potential to create a better future for all. Girls are changemakers, innovators, and leaders. They are the next generation of doctors, lawyers, engineers, scientists, and artists. However, too many girls around the world are facing barriers to reaching their full potential. Girls are more likely to be out of school than boys, and they are more likely to live in poverty. Girls are also more likely to experience violence and discrimination. On this day, we commit to investing in girls' futures. We must ensure that all girls have access to quality education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. We must also work to create a world where girls are safe and respected. Here are some ways that we can invest in girls' futures: * Increase access to quality education for all girls. This includes eliminating school fees, providing transportation and childcare assistance, and making schools safe and welcoming for girls. * Challenge gender stereotypes and discrimination in education. This includes promoting positive role models for girls, challenging traditional attitudes about girls' roles in society, and addressing violence and harassment in schools. * Provide girls with the skills and support they need to succeed in the workforce. This includes providing vocational training, mentorship programs, and access to job opportunities. * Protect girls from violence and exploitation. This includes enacting and enforcing laws to protect girls, and providing support services to girls who have been victims of violence. Investing in girls' futures is the best investment we can make in our future. When girls succeed, we all succeed. On International Women’s Day , we reflect on the tremendous progress for girls and women over the last decades but a lot remains to be done to support girls education amidst fragility and conflict. More in my latest blogpost with Myra Khan. ⬇️
Did you know that 60% of the countries with the lowest primary school enrollment rates for girls are in fragile and conflict-affected states? And that Learning Poverty for girls in these contexts is over 90%? That means 9 out of 10 girls in these countries cannot read or understand a simple text in their language. We must do much more. Expert and trainer on prevention radicalisation | resilient democracy | polarisation & stability. Staff member RAN Practitioners, supporting practitioners preventing and countering violent extremism.
Today I moderated for the Radicalisation Awareness Network - RAN (RAN Practitioners), a webinar on gender sensitive PvE work. How can European youth workers support girls and young women from falling for the lure of the sisterhood (belonging) and being expoited by extremist groups? With contributions of the excellent Eviane Leidig, Nina K.(äsehage), Amina Moustafa and Nicole Atilio. With rising political and societal tensions around migration, a culture war, climat crisis and a war in Gaza, many girls are concerned, angry and suffering from feeling hopeless and helpless. Girl work, youth work for girls and adocelescents, can create safe spaces in the company of a trusted adult, where perceived doubts, grievances and issues about body, family and relations can be discussed. Youth-led social action and activities can offer an alternative sense of beloning and purpose. #youthwork #pve #radicalisation #jongerenwerk #weerbaarheid #resilience
