Today we will talk about identities ...

For the first time ever, we have a common #digitalidentity setup across all member states in europe, which passed #euparliament this thursday.   Lets continue with episode 2 : the principles behind Data minimalism combined with identity as a trust anchor is the future Image each of us as trust anchors. Yes we are trustable, especially when we enhance our person with credentials. In future, we bind them to our person. Good examples could be a achieved university degree. Lets enhance these crdentials and make them verifiable. So some organisation could check if the credential we own and present is still valid. So in our case a future employer or organisation could check back at a university and can be sure the university degree has been achieved. In our #EUDIwallet will soon be lots of credentials enhancing us as persons, from university degree towards driving licence.   Souvereignity is the one and only basic rule If a organisation or a person needs information, they will ask for it. We as persons decide in each and every case which informations or data we want to share. The approach is the absolute opposite to what we have now. Actually we could not excercise our rights in the digital environment, as large plattforms own our data and make money out of it.   Privacy Preserving means no more data sharing than necessary #episode 1 already mentioned it - data minimalism is the set of rules. In the near future we will only share and present the absolutely minimal set of data. The new way of identifying or authorising each of us means a reduced information broadcast accompanied by a more secure way. Sharing only relevant information while protecting sensitive data is the approach for maintaining and enhancing privacy.   Selective Disclosure or you only share the absolutely needed information Nowadays when we login to a platform we share a lot of often unneccessary but valuable information about us. The amount of data is used to generate revenue within these platforms. #eIDAs2 and new #Eudigitalidentity gives us new options. We will decide to whom and when we present information or verifiable credentials. Selective disclosure means to decide, which specific information we want to share from our verifiable credentials - this could be the city we are living in, to proof we are a citizen of that city to get a cost reduction while entering a cultural event.   Zero knowledge proofs - you do not need to know the details, just for what ist stands Privacy preserving gets even better with zero knowledge proofs. Today we proof a possession of certain information by simply revealing it completely. In the near future we proof some kind of personal feature without revealing the relevant information behind. This thursday march 29 European Parliament will sign the eIDAS 2 Revision. For the first time ever, we will soon be able to use a common #digitalidentity setup across all member states in europe.    So what changes are we facing and where are the benefits behind the #EUdigitalidentity? I will talk about this for some episodes. Lets start with   episode #1 - we have everything under control.   Each of us has the right to a EU digital identity. Yes, each of us can have a digital identity. So where is the big change, as we all have a identity so far? We all have the right to have a digital one. The potential coming out of this across europe is enormous - the goal: reach a minimum of 80% of all EU citizens until 20230.   Our digital identity will be stored in a wallet over which we have full control. The #EUDigitalID lives in a #EUDIwallet on our smartphones. It is designed to be the secure space for our credentials and #digitalidentity. As we are in full control of our smartphones, we also in full control what we do with our new digital identity. As it is stored within our reach, no big plattform will have control over it. By using that EU digital identity, we could access public and private services. In near future we just show our #eID which lives in the wallet on our smartphones: easy, convinient and secure. We have all have showed our paper based passports and driving licences while renting a car on holidays. The future is digital and therefore we access public services, log in to portals, interact with govermental or local authorities.   We solely control it by excercising our rights in the digital environment. For now each of us has lots of logins on several platforms. These platforms own our login and they use the gained data to raise money. Not far away, we bring our identity with us and are able to authenticate against lots of platforms. A new way to use our rights within digital environments.   We decide when and which data we want to present. Data minimalism is key. When using services, we offer lots of data over which we have just limited control. Platforms use that data and we cannot limit usage or the amount of data. The EU #eID comes with new approaches - so in the near future we decide which data we want to offer and in which use cases. We decide each time when we present data or credentials.
