Company Visiting ④ | HERO GAMES (英雄游戏) I had the great opportunity to visit HERO GAMES, a leading game developer and publisher. With their Brand-new mission "Embrace greater challenges and create ingenious games with HERO's standards," they make a new game that satisfies their users by being the creator who always exceeds the limits. They introduced us to the company(including to History of the company and the existing products&Apps) and brought us around the company(including to Gym, Basketball Court, Slide, Leisure Area, and Working Place). I have talked with Japanese employees who work in this company and got the real voices of working in China as Japanese and in general. For me, a student who aspires to work abroad in the future, getting to know about the working environment and interactions with the employees who work in a global environment were precious chances. I found that if you, an English speaker, want to work in the game industry, a high Chinese level is not a must. This was great notice. Equipping the #slide in the office is quite an interesting and unique idea that makes a comfortable environment, where employees with childlike hearts can be enough relaxed to nourish and maximize their #creativity in their daily work. Commonly, ideas come to their mind suddenly and intentionally when they are not seriously thinking about the works. That's why, this workplace's environment is what impressed me most.

We asked Senior Game Product Manager Lexi Gao about her move to LA from Hong Kong and her favorite parts of the Champion creation process: 3️⃣ What are three words you’d use to describe your life at League? Learning - You learn every day from peers, mentors, and players! Collaborating - Everyone is so great at what they do. We do amazing things together when we collaborate! Creative - The creativity and energy around you is exhilarating. 🌐 You began your Riot career in Hong Kong before moving to LA. How does Riot work with a global mindset to make League of Legends the best game possible? The League community stretches around the globe. Keeping our players in mind when we develop means that we cannot just think about one region's players. It takes time and effort to learn and understand different perspectives, habits, and desires of different players around the world. Being born in China, growing up in Canada, and being an avid traveler, I'm no stranger to learning about different cultures. You have to approach regional differences with curiosity and the mindset that you want to learn more. 🆕 Which parts of the Champion creation process are your favorite? Are there any critical aspects that players might not know about? The best part about being on the Champions team is the energy you get when players see your work. Their delight is really why we do what we do. In terms of the creative process though, DNA (Design, Narrative, and Art) is the first big phase of the Champion creation process where we determine who is the Champion we are making. This is when each of the craft disciplines melds together to form an iconic character. It’s always really exciting when everything clicks together and everyone agrees, "Ah, that's it!" That’s the part that players don't often see, but what’s really important is that not every Champion is for every player. If we make something that is for everyone, we would end up making a character for no one. Thus, in the beginning, we call out what player type this Champion is made for and base all of our decisions on that.

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the Games First event in Helsinki, organized by Supercell , and let me tell you, it was an eye-opening experience! As a Talent Manager at Nitro Games, I'm relatively new to the gaming industry, and attending events like this is essential for my professional development. Among the many inspiring speeches, one particular talk by Inari Bornholm , an industry veteran, truly resonated with me. She emphasized the importance of embracing discomfort as a means of learning and growing. In an industry that is constantly evolving, it's crucial to step out of our comfort zones and challenge ourselves. I feel very vulnerable when facing with the unknown or unfamiliar, but it's precisely in these moments that I have the greatest potential for development. As Talent Managers, we have to constantly educate ourselves, even if it means venturing into uncharted territories. By pushing the boundaries of our knowledge and skill set, we can stay ahead of the game and contribute meaningfully to our teams. Inari's speech reminded me that growth and learning often require stepping into the discomfort zone. It's where innovation and breakthroughs happen. It's where we find new perspectives, develop resilience, and build the confidence to tackle challenges head-on. So, let's embrace discomfort together! Let's be open to new ideas, willing to take risks, and eager to learn from our failures. #discomfort #gamesfirst

May was a busy month for the Corporate Social Responsibility team at Activision Blizzard! In addition to celebrating Military Appreciation Month with the Call of Duty Endowment, we also released our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report. While our work is never done, I’m happy to share the 2022 report that details the progress we've made in each of our commitment areas - Championing our People, Advancing DE&I, and Protecting the Planet. A few highlights from the report include: 🔹 We grew representation of employees who self-reported as women or non-binary people to approximately 26%. 🔹 We appointed our first dedicated Head of Inclusive Game Design, Adrian Ledda. 🔹 61% of our data center and workplace energy came from renewable energy. For perspective, that number was less than 1% the year before. 🔹 We developed a decarbonization roadmap to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and created a detailed operating plan to reduce carbon intensity, water usage, and waste. Very proud to work alongside Dan Goldenberg, Brittany Tompkins, Jessica Thomas, Tiffany T., Samantha Garcia, Kelvin Liu and so many others who brought this report to life.
