Mental health conditions might not be the first health complication that comes to mind when talking about maternal mortality, but a new evidence review found that it’s the leading cause of pregnancy-related deaths in the U.S. And, devastatingly, Black mothers are twice as likely to experience maternal mental health conditions but half as likely to receive treatment compared to White mothers. We need policies to address this accordingly. Expanding Medicaid to 12 weeks postpartum in all 50 states could help make sure everyone who needs mental health care after giving birth gets it. 45 states plus DC have done so already. 5 left to go. https://lnkd.in/ePvhM_ux
