This is great news for Mozilla, for everyone who uses the internet, and for everyone who cares about ethics, privacy, and human rights. We need a well-functioning Mozilla more than ever - and that much-needed presence has been absent for years. The spirit in the following quote gives me a lot of hope - I think this is how all technology should be built, and how all technologists should approach their work, but it's rarely true: “After all, the technology we have now was once just someone’s imagination. We can dream, build, and demand technology that serves all of us, not just the powerful few.” I hope - and believe - that she can make it happen.

I recently came across Mozilla's Common Voice, an open-source initiative that's reshaping the future of voice recognition technology. This project stands out because it makes that technology inclusive and accessible to everyone. 🎙️ How does it work? Volunteers from around the world donate their voices, which are then used to build a diverse, multilingual dataset. This dataset is crucial for developing voice recognition applications that understand a wide array of languages, including those less represented in current technologies. 🤝 Why is this important? Voice technology is becoming increasingly integral in our daily lives. By ensuring it recognizes various languages and accents, we're taking a big step towards digital inclusivity. It's more ethical to democratize a technology that works for everyone, not just based on market-driven decisions. 🔍 Want to contribute or learn more? Visit Common Voice and see how you can be part of this unique project. https://lnkd.in/dFq-FEhJ Voice technology can only be truly inclusive with our collective efforts! #CommonVoice #Mozilla #OpenSource #DigitalInclusion

"Collaborative mindset" and "Jeff and Sanjay - Google Senior Fellows—the company’s first and only Level 11s(as of 2018)" If you find some one is better than you in skills or competencies, then collaborate instead of competing. By doing so, your competencies will also improve. But by competing, you are building hatred, in-security etc which will not help the organisation as well. Read this interesting article on how 2 Google employees(Jeff Dean and Sanjay Ghemawat) preferred pair programming and debugging in the same computer to take Google to new heights. https://lnkd.in/gQmhRnzh #collaboration #pairprogramming #pairdebugging #hatred #insecurity #google #googlecloud #technology

Containing Big Tech by Tom Kemp Nonfiction Book Awards Gold Medal Technology is a gift. The five Big Tech companies― Meta, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, and Google―have built innovative products that improve many aspects of lives. Tom’s book provides facts on how their technology has harmed our civil rights, economy, and democracy. It is my personal beliefs: A) Privacy is critical! B) Online surveillance, AI, and tech monopolies must be a global competitive advantage. Facts to support these two beliefs: 1. USA healthcare ranks #20 globally. Europe has better privacy laws and this directly results in better quality healthcare. France and Italy are #1 and 2 for healthcare globally. 2. USA has a national deficit that has tripled over the past 20 years. Tom Kemp is a leader in building Silicon Valley-based tech startups. Tom eloquently and precisely weaves together the critical improvements needed from Big Tech. My belief is by getting Big Tech to be a global competitive advantage we will ensure our economy is competitive, and our democracy is protected. #amazon #apple #microsoft #google #facebook #meta

📢 Big News from Mozilla! 🎉 Mozilla has announced a significant reorganization 🔄, which includes layoffs and a reduction in the number of products it supports. The new focus? Integrating trustworthy AI 🧠 into its Firefox web browser 🌐. This shift comes as Mozilla aims to prioritize resources in areas with the greatest chance of success, such as Firefox Mobile 📱, and to establish a better model for the industry. As part of the reorganization, Mozilla is stepping back from certain projects 🚫, such as its Mastodon-based social media platform, consumer security and privacy products (Mozilla VPN, Relay, and Online Footprint Scrubber), and its Hubs 3D virtual worlds 🌐. Instead, Mozilla is turning its attention to AI, driven by the rapid changes in the industry landscape and the potential for AI to reshape personal technology 💻. During Mozilla’s Innovation Week, the company discussed these projects and shared insights and learnings. The event was an exploration into the future of technology, emphasizing AI as a reality that needs to be shaped now. Mozilla called on tech enthusiasts, developers, and innovators to join in shaping the future of technology 🚀. The Mozilla Foundation’s work is centered around the principle of open research 🔍, which involves analyzing and documenting internet health and trustworthy AI to help shape a human-centered internet. The foundation believes that openness is the best way to identify informed solutions for a healthier internet and truly trustworthy AI. In addition to these efforts, Mozilla is seeking projects at the intersection of AI and environmental justice through the Mozilla Technology Fund 💰. The fund will provide $300,000 to AI projects that make a positive impact on ecosystems and human communities 🌍. Mozilla’s movement building work is largely focused on developing trustworthy AI, with an emphasis on human agency and corporate accountability. The organization is dedicated to giving people a say in how AI is used to make important decisions and to shape how those decisions are made. Mozilla’s values in this area include privacy, fairness, trust, safety, and transparency 🛡️. Overall, Mozilla’s refocusing on AI represents a strategic pivot towards addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by the rapid advancement of AI technologies. The organization is looking to innovate in this space by promoting trustworthy AI that aligns with its mission of internet health and human-centered technology 🌐. #Mozilla #AI #Innovation #Technology #InternetHealth #alxafrica #holbertonschool alx_africa Holberton School United States University Mozilla
