What do you think, LinkedIn? (Personally, I think LinkedIn managers should be the highest paid position at any company)
Should salespeople be the highest paid position at a company? A clip from the recently independent Barstool Sports of what’s to come
This is correct. A problem with companies now is that they spend so much in marketing. The marketing teams are amazing at painting a picture and telling a story and that is so exciting. Sales is sales. It facts and it’s boring. Companies get tricked into the story telling and watch their sales fall apart. Sales makes money; marketing spends money.
Unlimited earning potential is the carrot that keeps a salesperson moving forward. They should be able to make a good living hitting targets and should be allowed to make as much as possible above that when they exceed. It is the most equal and fair pay structure.
I truly say this all the time! Without the salespeople their is no company. Sure one owner can sell as much as one owner can. But to grow and expand you need good quality sales people who understand the mission!
A guy who buys his 500+ Million Dollar company back for $1 is never wrong. #ThePirateShipSails
Don’t feel like they should be the highest paid (base + bonus) but comp plan should allow them to be among the highest paid if they work hard and produce results. True commissioned sales (very low salary but no cap on earnings) people will work harder and produce better results. Once you get in a spot where you’ll be paid the same regardless of results performance will go down. Higher highs but lower lows
Most Salespeople do Not stay in Sales long enough though to reap the Rewards of all their efforts-was in straight commission Real Estate for many years-someone told me to devote at least 2 yrs to the Profession... and "hit it hard"-treat Sales like a regular job+ More:)-many do Not want to do the necessary functions of Sales ,many do Not want to do a ton of cold calls-that is a death knell death right there-cold calls make or break a Salesperson-Once we build a Pipeline...all the Pieces fall into place-Sales then becomes easier-But we have to put in the necessary upfront(delayed Gratification) work to be successful
*Salesman here* Let's not misconstrue this statement by saying we are the "most important" employees. "Highest paid" and "most important" are not the same thing. Our income is directly associated with how we perform. And quite honestly, everyone else's income in based on how we perform, as well.

10moThe problem is companies have hired analysts to review their comp plans and they try to keep sales people in a box. They limit the downside and upside. A sales person should know how much they are going to make on every deal they close and at a lot of companies the sales people can’t even figure their comp plan out. The old school commission route is the way to go.
