Great to be back in Singapore for a while. Early morning walks to keep the mind fresh. At INCITE Consulting wellness is something we always talk about and promote as something that should be at the top of your To Do List! Great way to start the day! I always talk about the likes of Japan, Thailand and other places being innovation hubs, but Singapore is just as much of one. Over the last decade many factors such as a youthful population and the high use of the internet and the rising middle class and start up friendly ecosystem has boosted the innovation journey here. Many large corporations here have embraced working with startup’s which is great to see. Now we need to help both large and small organization continue to scale with disruptive tech to bring their products and services to the growing SEA region. The Megatrend New Work is a general term for new ways of working that includes characteristics such as individuality, freedom, decentralisation, digitalisation and adaptability. Already in the 70s, specialists such as Prof. Dr. Frithjof studied different topics on this (in the 70s💡!). ◾Structure of work, ◾Attitude at work & ◾Impact of digitalisation It is interesting to notice that megatrends such as "New Work" never appear alone and always touch and influence other trends such as digitalisation, globalisation and individualisation. ❔ How do we relate this to the context of companies ❔ In Lemona, we elaborate and analyse the vision of a company in terms of location, structure, working model, culture, sustainability, teamwork and employees. 🌍 Why Best Practices Don't Translate Across Cultures? When companies try to replicate successful practices from one culture to another, they often face unexpected difficulties and limitations. This is because best practices are context-specific and do not always translate well across different cultural settings. 🚧💡🌐 In one study conducted at a high-tech company, we examined the implementation of innovation practices in India and China, inspired by the success of a similar center in the United States. Despite being part of the same company and performing similar tasks, employees in different cultural contexts interpreted and implemented the practices differently. 🔄 Another study focused on software development teams in different locations, such as the US, Germany, and India. Management practices that worked well in the U.S. and Germany generated dissatisfaction in India. 🖥️🌍❌ Evaluation and reward processes designed to promote autonomy and flat hierarchies clashed with the expectations of Indian developers, who desired more contact and feedback from managers. Additionally, a study on collaborative technologies in Japan, Mexico, and the U.S. highlighted differences in adoption and usage. 🇯🇵🇲🇽🇺🇸🔬 Cultural factors, such as commuting patterns and attitudes towards remote work, influenced the acceptance of telecommuting technologies. Collaborative technology preferences and formality in communication also varied across cultures.
