The best way to stay on top of #GenAlpha trends? Be the parent of a 9 year old! My son is obsessed with #Skibidi Toilet, which is #YouTube's top trending topic of 2023. Never heard of it? Imagine a series of short CG videos detailing epic battles between toilet people and business people with cameras for heads. Yup, that about sums it up. There's a catchy jingle and sometimes a Tears for Fears song pops up. Skibidi videos have over 750M views; they have inspired #Roblox games and a ton of bootleg action figures on #Amazon. I doubt #Netflix or #Disney will acquire this truly strange IP, so it seems destined to live on YouTube, which is THE main entertainment platform for many kids. I was scrolling through the linkedin and I saw Morgan Willis's count down invite to do AWS cloud quest on twitch. It was around 9:30 PM CEST but the topic looked interesting and I said why not! I did the challenge guided by Morgan Willis and Rafael “Raf” Lopes and learned multiple quick tips on Amazon S3, ECR, ECS and EKR. There were so many hints and keywords that are worth investigating further as well. I had the AWS Jams experience before but it was lots of practical assignments w/o proper training. On the other hand, I tried to read through documents in the past as well but I needed a sandbox to practice. I think cloud quests are offering this balance and there is an immediate opportunity to practice what is preached even for free.
