I have been reflecting lately on what it means to be a woman in the technology industry. The good. The bad. The ugly. And I won’t focus on the bad and the ugly because you have all heard enough stories. What I will say is that - with time - I’ve developed a composure and a serenity that comes from deeply understanding and valuing myself. I have learned to lean into my intuition, to craft my own sense of what is right / wrong and to speak my truth louder. I expected it to get easier. It hasn’t. It probably won’t. But it doesn’t have to. I just have to harness all that is difficult as fuel to continuously get better, stronger, louder. Just another Sunday reflection :). I went on a solo hike today to reflect on the last few weeks of momentum & tension, opportunity & impasse, abundance & scarcity, energy & exhaustion, focus & excitement, entrepreneurship & motherhood etc. Actually…the truth is…I perpetually find myself at the intersection of one dichotomy or another. Two seemingly mutually exclusive things pulling me in opposite directions. The tension is intense, sometimes overwhelming. The tension tells me to choose - is it one or the other? Is it growth or profitability? Is it focus or innovation? Is it brand or demand? Is it being a good mom or being a good leader? But how many of these are false dichotomies? What if ALL THINGS CAN BE TRUE? I spent most of my hike reflecting on this - can all things be true? I came to realize that ultimately - in order for me to do my best work, build the best company, live my best life I have to BELIEVE that all things can be true. Because the magic is in the tension. Because the creativity comes from trying to reach beyond the limits of what I think I am capable of (as messy as it may end up feeling or looking on a daily basis). I know this belief / motto is not for everyone. But as of today, I’ll embrace is as a motto to navigate this next chapter of exponentially growing complexity, momentum and opportunity.
