Just came back from the Manchester LawtechUK event (https://lnkd.in/euS6pHCk) and was honestly so glad I decided to attend! 🔥 From the great talks drawing from a diverse range of perspectives, spanning from academic and research, industry (legal) practices, to the technical conventions and developments in tech and generative AI, it was refreshing to explore, learn and discuss all the exciting things that are happening at the forefront of innovation in law. 💢 Very grateful for such initiative being held in Manchester, where I only had to walk 5 minutes from office to get to the event venue. I was joined by Mark Grayson, Christopher Wheatley and Gabriella Magaji MSc which was a lovely surprise, forming a BCLP convoy! 👍 One of the highlights for me has got to be Kerry Westland 's talk on Gen-AI Case Studies, where we got to hear real-life insights on how Gen-AI is currently being developed to use, and further how huge the potential is for the industry, from a refreshingly practical point of view. I have personally been following her posts and her team's impressive strides in legal/law innovation, so it was really great to finally see her in person! 💡 Thanks also Jonathan Patterson for summarising my long questions! 😅 My mind was spiralling trying to cut short the ideas I had before asking. What great insights I'd gotten from the panel responses as well. 💯 I got to finally meet Alex Herrity in person and enjoyed such a great conversation, an inspiring leader in the space I have been following for a while now. Was great to speak about how law/legal tech manifests itself and develops differently across the wider industry, and where we are heading collectively. 🚀 Finally, it was so nice to meet up again with some familiar faces such as Rachel Kenyon and Will Lloyd, who are making waves in the industry in their rights. 🤝 Overall, what a great event! Thanks Jimmy Vestbirk for personally inviting me, as otherwise I might have missed it. The 2024 Legalweek Leaders in Tech Law Awards winners have been announced, recognising the most innovative technology in the legal industry from law firms, in-house legal departments, legal technology providers and ALSPs. Jake Heller and Pablo Arredondo, CEO and Co-Founder and Chief Innovation Officer and Co-Founder of Casetext, respectively, were awarded Innovators of the Year (Individual) Provider for their outstanding work. Their approach to making a real impact on legal work was to combine their legal and technical skills, and they implemented neural nets and LLMs in the best way possible instead of jumping on the “AI hype train.” They have achieved this by replicating the best attorneys’ workflows as technology, not simply putting a wrapper around generative AI.

Bernstein-Burkley partners JJ Richardson and David Jones, Jr. attended the 2024 DRI Business and Intellectual Property Litigation Super Conference from March 20 – 22 in Philadelphia, PA. The conference focused on important and emerging issues in a business and legal environment that is becoming increasingly impacted, both positively and negatively, by social media, artificial intelligence, and other rapidly developing technologies.
