Interesting watch. I don't necessarily agree with everything said there, but there's a lot of accurate and good information that you may not be fully aware of. Streaming services are likely not going anywhere as they provide what the vast majority of (casual) music listeners need and want: convenience and easy access to music. And for musicians, at least at this point, you can't really choose not to be there because you need to go to market somehow, and this currently is the market. So you choose to accept that you're not going to make a lot of money of it, instead you use it as a promotional tool to build/expand a fan base in order to monetize elsewhere (touring, merch etc). And to be honest, hasn't it always been like that, kind of? Selling your records on whichever media was selling at the time out of your trunk until you'd sing a record deal with a big label which would often not be that great for you? What I personally believe should be done is using DSPs as secondary platforms and PR tools, and focus your primary efforts on building a "super-fan" base by going directly to your fans in more of an exclusive fashion. I see a number of platforms emerging that can help you do exactly that, and I'm not necessarily talking about Bandcamp (mentioned in the video) or similar. One that comes to mind is and I think is a good example is EVEN. Anyway, the video is definitely worth 17 minutes of your time!
