I often get asked about practical tips for when people are feeling dysregulated. TIPP Regulation skills - helpful for when you’re feeling anxious/panicky, having a meltdown/shutdown, or feeling overwhelmed. T. Temperature - Splash your face with cold water or hold an ice cube to change your body temperature I: Intense Exercise - Do intense exercise for short period of time to match your intense emotion eg dancing, sprinting, push ups P: Paced Breathing - Breathe in for the count of 4, hold your breath for 7, breathe out for 8. Repeat until you feel calmer P: Paired Muscle Relaxation - Focus on one part of your body at a time, tense and then relax your muscles It can be useful to practice some of these techniques at times when you feel a bit more calm so that it’s easier to put into practice at times of high stress. Children with solid beliefs will stand stronger in the face of peer pressure, bullying, a negative environment, and messages from the world around them. Negative beliefs impact our lives greatly and can be hard to shift as we grow older. A positive sense of self developed in childhood generally stays strong throughout life. A child’s brain is still developing and wiring itself, which means it is especially important to help instill healthy feelings early on. The older they get, the harder it is to shake long-established negative beliefs. A confident and secure child is one who doesn’t feel the need to put others down to make themselves feel good; and a confident child is open to learning new things, participating more, achieving more, adapting well to change, and experiencing better relationships. If your child needs some help, explore the power of positive affirmations together. Write short notes and put them inside your kid’s lunchbox. Place those notes on their nightstand. Include affirmations during play time. Whether they need help for specific issues or not, integrating positive affirmations on a regular basis can make a healthier difference. https://lnkd.in/dw6DCrZC #Therapy #MentalHealth #MentalWellness #Counseling #Therapist #BayAreaTherapy #Alamo #Danville #SanRamon #WalnutCreek #Lafayette #Orinda #Moraga #SanFranciscoTherapy #BayAreaMentalHealth #SanFranciscoWellness #BayAreaCounseling #Mindfulness #Psychotherapy #ChildTherapy #ChildCounseling #TherapyCommunity #WellnessCommunity #TherapyCommunity #WellnessCommunity

Autistic Person #DisabilityPride; CTO at WellSaid Labs; Guinness World Record Holder; Social Justice Activist
Sing along with us 🥲 #disabledandproud There are so many times in my life that a little bit of support would of gone such a long way. Here are some examples: - Helping me not miss social cues/hints - Stimming along with me! 🥳 - Nudging me if I’m stuck - Following up with me, giving closure. - Learning a bit more about how my disability works 😉 Autism leads me to be both focused and creative. And sometimes I just need a bit of help not getting stuck in my own head. I sometimes need a bit of help closing threads. I sometimes need a bit of help catching what I’m missing. On the other hand, I certainly don’t need any help doing world class research 🥼 That comes naturally to me! 🕺 #disabledandproud #neuroinclusivity #neurodiversity
