In case you have missed it, Meta has released Llama 3 🦙🔥 We now have a 8B and 70B parameters model and they will also release a 400B model which is still in training. This is the new best open-source LLM and only slightly lower performance than GPT4, Claude 3 and Gemini. The 400B model will most likely be up there. One thing better than performance, open-source. The models are intended for commercial and research use in English. The Llama 2 models were pretrained on 2 trillion tokens of data from publicly available sources. The fine-tuning data includes publicly available instruction datasets, as well as over one million new human-annotated examples. The Llama 2 models have been evaluated on standard academic benchmarks, and they have shown strong performance on a variety of tasks, including code, commonsense reasoning, world knowledge, reading comprehension, math, and safety. The Llama 2 models are still under development, and Meta is working to improve their performance and safety. The models are available for free download and use, and Meta encourages the community to contribute to their development. Feel like you are chasing a new LLM every few weeks 🤯 ? You're Not Alone! 🚀 Every other week, a new language model emerges, each promising to be quicker and more efficient than the last.  Just when you think you are familiar with one, suddenly, there's another making headlines, like "Meta Takes the Lead" or "OpenAI Unveils a Groundbreaking Model." It's easy to feel overwhelmed—I totally get it! 😢 Here’s my personal strategy to stay focused and productive without getting lost in the constant updates: 1) 🎯 Identify Your Challenge: Pinpoint the specific problem you need to solve. For example, interpreting extensive research papers. 2) 🔍 Conduct Targeted Research: Compile a list of potential models from leaders like OpenAI, Hugging Face, and Meta. Focus on understanding their core mechanics, required inputs, advantages, drawbacks, and any validation they've undergone. Keep this research concise to avoid the common pitfall of getting bogged down in details at the expense of action. (Remember with new advancements you'll keep coming back to this step) 3) 🤖 Prototype and Refine: Select a model and start developing. Monitor its effectiveness, noting what works and what doesn’t—especially if you're engaged in prompt engineering (maintain versions). Then, iterate with the next model on your list to continuously enhance the response. This method ensures I stay on top of things without being overwhelmed by the rapid development in the AI field.
