It’s Race Equality Week. A week to engage in some organisational introspection and think about how we can all become better allies for our colleagues. This year’s theme is #ListenActChange ▪ Listen: Listen, be curious, ask open questions, and include everyone at every level. ▪ Act: Work with colleagues to understand appropriate action to ensure people feel like they belong by acknowledging the things that can make people feel excluded - from taking the time to correctly pronounce someone’s name to calling out microaggressions. #itseveryonesbusiness ▪ Change: Ensure diversity and inclusion is more than just a policy document. Race Equality Week 2024- 5-day Challenge 💡 Day 5- The Big Promise💡 What an amazing week it’s been celebrating #RaceEqualityWeek, a significant initiative that addresses barriers to race equality in the workplace. Thank you to everyone who has participated, asked questions, or engaged in our #REW posts.😊 I hope you’ve enjoyed the 5-day challenge and have learned something new! Over the week we have covered the following… Day 1- Microaggressions. Explaining "What is a microaggression?" And how to become Active Allies. Day 2- The importance of learning about Different Cultures. Day 3- The importance of Public Praise. Day 4- Learning about a Culture of Belonging Day 5- is the Big Promise.... Actions speak louder than words. The Big Promise is a commitment to action and not just words. Individuals make a public commitment that is measurable, and they are held accountable to create positive change. Sharing a Big Promise shows your colleagues and peers your commitment to driving change. So what's your Big Promise? (Here are some examples) ·       1. mentor, reciprocal or reverse mentor if asked ·       2. help develop opportunities for my peers ·       3. feedback my ideas and suggestions for improvement ·       4. be brave and speak out when I encounter racism ·       5. take part in Safe Space Plus (a dialogue with Senior Management to create change), Tea Break or #MyNameIs ·       6. take up opportunities offered to me I promise to feedback my ideas and suggestions for improvement.
