Great leaders have made great errors and those moments provide some of the most powerful learning in a person’s career. Personally, I’ve made some huge, customer-impacting mistakes in my 25+ years of software engineering. What I love about Amazon is the blameless culture where learnings are focused on how to improve and prevent what are often human mistakes. Level Up Everyday I have a close friend who works in Amazon and it was inspiring to hear the culture of his company. Amazon runs a philosophy in the company that is brilliant. It is called “It’s Day One”. It’s day one means it is the first time you are exposed to learning something new ,and it is the attitude of being curious and humble. That is why I have recently downloaded and paid Masterclass app that features 180+ experts trainers on different topics ranges from Science and Tech, communication, writing, business etc. I love to learn about business philosophy , communication and leadership. Getting 1% better everyday for a year means I grow at 37.78% (compounded daily). The day you stop growing is the day you stop learning new things around you or about yourself isn’t it. It’s day one is such a phenomenal mindset to have no matter which environment we are in. Be it towards our relationship with others, learning something new or when we are problem solving. How can you use this mentality in the coming week ahead?

Amazon’s doc reads are brutal. You write a document, invite a lot of people from your and adjacent teams to the virtual meeting and ask for their feedback. They either leave comments directly in the document or raise their hands and ask questions. As you can imagine, everyone is ambitious and very opinionated, so a lot of times the feedback can be rough. But here is why it works: •You do it multiple times, you anticipate the questions •You learn to write economically - say more with less •You learn to separate your assumptions from statements that data supports •By writing a doc, you think through your ideas better  •You learn to embrace difficult feedback You don’t need to be a PM to start honing your writing. Take a writing course, and practice with things like emails / LinkedIn messages /even LinkedIn posts. Whenever you write something, think about - how can you cut 50% of what I wrote? The key to writing for me was to let my imagination run freely with the ideas I wanted to share about my systems practice #learningjourney. I didn't force the process and never truly intended to write. It was all just there, waiting to spill out. The themes I talk about are things that practitioners bring up over and over again. I saw so much of a pattern that is rarely, if ever, talked about (the emotional journey and being an invisible practitioner). I knew it was something I wanted to share with others. I've had the conversation so many times on an individual basis that I wanted to capture its essence. As systems practitioners it is important that we consider ourselves on our journey and in doing that, it is important to open up to the feelings and emotions that the discipline can bring into our lives.
