Here it is, my annual ranker of the 100 Most-Watched TV Series of 2022-23 in total viewers and adults 18-49, in broadcast and cable: This Season’s Winners and Losers. Taylor Sheridan can enjoy his moment at the top of the heap. #Yellowstone ended the season as the only non-sports show to average over 10 million viewers a week — at 11.6 million. (CBS’ “NCIS,” next in line, is just shy of that, at 9.8 million). And it continues to be the only entertainment series to average a 2.0 rating or better among adults 18-49 — the next closest shows are half that. Even sneak linear previews of his new entries #1923 and #TulsaKing made it on the top 100 of this season’s top series. As the TV season ends, CBS took the overall crown for total viewers, averaging 5.9 million (down 5% from last year), while Fox was tops among adults 18-49 with a 1.1 rating. According to CBS, this marks its 15th consecutive win in viewers. See all the charts here: https://lnkd.in/g7StNSzk

Marketing & Communications Specialist II at OverDrive | BFA, MLIS | The New York Times called me a “stylish and sparkly writer” 🏳️🌈
Back in 1996, The X-Files had an episode so disturbing the network refused to re-air it. That episode -- "Home" -- is on this list. It also happens to be one of my favorite episodes, so do with that what you will 😅 The big thing about "Home" is that if you weren't in front of your television -- or had set the VCR -- that particular night you were out of luck for a long time. In some ways, "Home" encompasses the ultimate FOMO TV experience back then, where you didn't want to miss an episode because you didn't know when it would show up as a rerun. (Me, I was a nerd who never missed an episode. I mean, I wrote X-Files fanfiction if we really want to get into it. In fact, my friends and I missed an hour of our 8th grade lock-in after convincing the principal to let us use the TV in the nurse's station to watch that night's episode.) Because of this, there was a mythology built around that one episode. Now, thanks to streaming, "Home" is available for viewing anytime. And I may or may not be planning on watching it tonight after being reminded of it thanks to Slate. #streamingplatforms #streamingmedia #fomo #television #thexfiles https://lnkd.in/ez9w6_ee

TV reboots have gotten a bad rap over the years. They often don’t fulfill what fans have imagined seeing in the years in-between the last episode of the original and the first of the reboot (like Dallas or Heroes Reborn). They also can take too many liberties with characters that fans don’t like or depart from the original feeling of the show. But there are a few reboots out there done right — like “Criminal Minds: Evolution.” This reboot quickly shot up in viewer popularity, becoming one of the top 5 original shows for Paramount+. Why? 👉 Sticks with beloved characters. Most of the previous cast reprise their old roles like Rossi, JJ, and Penelope. While there are new faces in the mix, the fan favorites get the screen time. 👉 Higher stakes. Episode 1 kicks off with even higher stakes than just chasing “Big Bads” as they face budget cuts and team members that aren’t part of the BAU any longer. But, of course, the team always bands together to beat a particularly threatening “unsub.” 👉 Leans into its darker tone. While its dark subject matter and tone were a little controversial back in the day, the show is able to lean into it for streaming. We all are a little bit into the macabre. “Criminal Minds: Evolution” has captured the hearts of old and new fans alike and we’re excited to see it debut on our Sony AXN channel! What did you think of the reboot? #media #entertainment #streaming
