Weekend/Holiday Copy Editor - Freelance

REVOLT.tv is the online space for the unapologetic, authoritative voice of hip hop culture, which includes, but isn’t limited to, rap and R&B music, the hip hop lifestyle, urban entertainment, and social justice.

REVOLT’s famed news site is looking for a copy editor for all weekends and holidays. Note that the company celebrates a number of holidays that others do not. So, the Sr. Managing Editor needs someone who will be available. Some of those holidays include The Notorious B.I.G's birthday (May 21), Juneteenth, Black Friday, the day after Christmas, the day after New Year’s Day, etc.

The Ideal Candidate

• 2-3 years experience as a copy editor at a major news outlet
• Must be an AP Style Expert (AP Nerds Only!) while able to learn some REVOLT in-house style
• Must feel nauseous when seeing a typo or punctuation error
• Must be able to effectively edit breaking news articles ASAP
• Must be a great fact-checker
• Must work effectively in a fast-paced news environment
• Must be extremely detail-oriented
• Must be able to edit news articles so precisely that site readers clearly get their messages and facts
• Must be receptive to feedback (Stay out your feelings)
• Must have knowledge of WordPress and other CMS platforms
• Knowledge of SEO a plus
• MUST have knowledge of and love for hip hop, social justice, and Black culture overall!
