Video Production Intern
Job Description
We are looking for a dynamic, creative, energetic, self-starter to join our Outreach & Development team as a video intern.
This internship position will use video to tell compelling stories that emotionally connect audiences with the Iowa DOT’s core focus of “making lives better through transportation.” Applicants should have basic knowledge of how to capture quality footage and sound and be able to edit footage and still photos from a variety of sources into a finished video piece.
Your work may be used as stand-alone projects or as part of broader communication campaigns on social media, digital publications, the web, signage, television, radio, and digital displays across Iowa, and beyond.
The Ideal Candidate Will
Iowa Department of Transportation's Outreach & Development Bureau functions as an internal PR and marketing agency. We provide audiences with information to make sound decisions related to travel, understand how transportation impacts their daily lives, and connect them with government and government services using language and methods that everyone can understand. We work in a fast-paced, creative, fun environment on projects that can impact citizens across Iowa and the nation.
Duration: Full-time (up to 40 hours/week) summer semester and transitioning to part-time (up to 20-hours/week) during the school semester.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Currently enrolled students in a degree program at an accredited educational institution.

The Ideal Candidate Will
- Experience with Adobe Premiere, Rush, or After Effects; or other desktop or cloud-based video editing software.
- Be energized by the ability to help shape the way our customers perceive the Iowa DOT and transportation in Iowa.
- Have the ability to generate unique story ideas as well as execute ideas brought forward by others.
- Be able to explain topics in a simple, yet interesting way to general audiences.
- Offer creative solutions to communication challenges by capturing and producing interesting and unique video and audio end products.
- Enjoy working with people and can put subjects at ease with being on camera or in audio recordings.
- Stay on top of the latest trends, tools, and techniques in video, audio, and social media.
- Let their passion and excitement for their work show through.
- Be a self-starter and able to stay on track to meet project deadlines.
- Ability to capture compelling content in short-form video, using mobile phones and digital cameras
- Ability to work in both controlled environments and on-location shoots
- Consistent creativity and ability to collaborate with like-minded individuals
- Ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team
