Summary Statement

The Vice President of Operations will plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee all operations activities, ensuring development and implementation of efficient operations and cost-effective systems to meet current and future needs of the organization.

Nature and Scope

This position provides leadership to all operation areas, including Production, Quality Assurance, Engineering, Technical, and Maintenance.

Reporting to this position are the Operations Manager, Continuous Improvement Manager, Facilities Manager, Engineering Manager, and Technical Manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains management-level staff in the department.

Oversees the daily workflow of the department.

Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.

Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy within the department.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Establishes, implements, and communicates the strategic direction of the organization’s operations division.

Maintain a high level of safety performance by stressing safety in plant operations and ensuring that manufacturing facilities are in compliance with OSHA safety regulations, and Environmental Protection Agency regulations.

Ensure efficient operations of production by continually evaluating plant performance against established standards and analyzing operations for increased quality, productivity, and cost reductions.

Develop and motivate personnel to maintain high skill levels by insuring challenging work and opportunity for personal growth.

Ensure that the operation’s organizational structure provides for a continued line of competent succession.

Maintain good industrial relations by ensuring fair and equitable application of the Union-Management Contractual Agreement.

Ensure the highest level of ISO Standards.

Collaborates with executive leadership to develop and meet company goals while supplying expertise and guidance on operations projects and systems.

Collaborates with other departments to carry out the organization’s goals and objectives.

Identifies, recommends, and implements new processes, technologies, and systems to improve and streamline organizational processes and use of resources and materials.

Ensures that departmental decisions and project plans such as those for staffing, development, organization, material efficiency, and facilities are in line with the organization’s business plan and vision.

Establishes, communicates, and implements operations-related policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent support and execution.

Establishes and administers the department’s budget.

Presents periodic performance reports and metrics to the President, Executive team, and other leadership.

Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in operations management.

Identifies training needs and ensures proper training is developed and provided.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Strong leadership and strategic planning skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Familiarity with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and compliance.

Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software as well as ERP systems.

Education and Experience:

This position requires a 4-year degree in science, engineering, or management with a minimum of 10 years of industry-related experience including three years in upper management required.
