Orion Solutions is working with a top-tier 3PL cold chain solutions company that is seeking a Vice President of Operations. This person will be responsible for leading and integrating the strategies of both the Capacity and Operations departments. This executive role involves developing and implementing strategies that align with our company's vision and enterprise objectives, driving overall carrier procurement performance, and operational efficiency to support our growth in the logistics and transportation industry. You will mentor, coach, and develop the leaders and teams within the Capacity and Operations departments, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and customer service excellence.

Responsibilities:
Within 3 Months:
  • Strategic Leadership and Collaboration: Develop and communicate a unified capacity strategy and operational excellence roadmap, in collaboration with the Executive Leadership team. This includes establishing a clear value proposition for carrier development, enhance carrier procurement performance, and integrated solution offerings to enhance customer service and retention. Direct and execute strategy initiatives tied to capacity and operational objectives to drive commercial and financial impact.
  • Financial Management and KPI Oversight: Manage department P&Ls and provide timely, accurate updates to the Chief Operating Officer regarding departmental performance through established metrics and KPIs, facilitating data-driven decision-making. Ensure financial strategies are in place to meet and exceed company goals.
Within 6 Months:
  • Team Development and Performance Enhancement: Cultivate a high-performance culture within the Capacity and Operations teams. Coach and develop the department leaders, utilizing development planning tools and resources to achieve individual, team, and company goals. Focus on building strong leadership within the Capacity and Operations departments to ensure team growth and operational success.
  • Operational Excellence and Customer Experience Improvement: Deploy strategies, action plans, and standardized integrated solution offerings to improve customer experience, increase retention, and enable account growth. Lead the implementation of operational improvements that streamline processes, leverage automation, and enable scalability across departments.
  • Ongoing:
  • Strategic Relationship Building and Change Management: Collaborate with Sales/Strategic Account Leaders and the Tech/Continuous Improvement team to build and maintain relationships with top carriers and key customers. Drive strategic growth objectives and lead change management initiatives that introduce methodologies aimed at improving service quality, cost, and delivery performance.
  • Talent Management and Organizational Development: Play a key role in the talent hiring and management process, ensuring the recruitment, development, and retention of high-caliber professionals within the Capacity Operations division. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
Qualifications
Educational Background
  • Essential: 4-year degree required, preferably in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related field.
  • Desirable: Advanced degrees (MBA or similar) or professional certifications in logistics, supply chain management, or leadership development are highly advantageous, reflecting a commitment to continuous learning and expertise in the field.
Experience
  • Required: Minimum of 8 years in Transportation, Logistics, or industry-related experience, with a proven track record in strategic roles. At least 5 years of this experience must be in leadership roles, managing teams directly and demonstrating a capacity for high-level operational oversight.
  • Leadership Experience: Demonstrated experience in mentoring and coaching managers with direct reports, showcasing the ability to develop leadership within teams and enhance overall departmental performance.
Skills and Competencies
  • Strategic Planning and Execution: Strong ability in developing and implementing comprehensive capacity strategies that align with company objectives. Must possess the capability to communicate and execute these strategies effectively across departments.
  • Operational Excellence: Proven track record of deploying strategies, action plans, and improvements that enhance customer experience, operational efficiency, and financial performance. Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies is preferred.
  • Change Management: Skilled in leading change management initiatives, demonstrating resilience and adaptability in a dynamic business environment. The ability to navigate and thrive amidst industry fluctuations is critical.
  • Financial Acumen: Experience managing P&Ls and using metrics and KPIs to guide departmental performance. Should be able to make informed financial decisions that contribute to the company’s growth and profitability.
  • Relationship Building: The capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including carriers, customers, and internal teams, to support strategic growth objectives.
