Cogent Strategies, a boutique, bipartisan government relations, strategic communications, digital advocacy and firm is seeking to hire a client-facing vice president who can thrive as a member of the firm's collaborative team serving its diverse client roster. The focus of the position is to achieve winning results and grow the business. The ideal candidate must have experience in government relations, lobbying, and policy advocacy, and possess a robust network, sense of humor, entrepreneurial spirit and attention to detail.


Qualifications:

  • Understanding of client's business and competitive landscape with a capacity to develop and execute lobbying campaigns on behalf of clients including messaging and collateral development, and direct lobbying.
  • Possesses strong and diverse contacts with policymakers, government officials, and industry stakeholders.
  • Works with or has relationships with key committees of members who serve on Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation, Finance, Health, Education, Labor and Pensions and/or House Energy and Committee and Ways and Means.
  • Experience in writing policy briefs, one-pagers, official letters and congressional testimony, as well as crafting strategic work plans and business development proposals.
  • Ability to create opportunities to position issues leveraging the full spectrum of government relations and engagement channels and tactics.
  • Ability to lead strategy, planning, coordination and management of fly-ins and events.
  • Works well in a collaborative team environment in keeping lines of communication open regarding all client projects.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of working experience in government relations, lobbying firms, Congress, executive branch and/or politics
  • Deadline-driven, detail-oriented, and resourceful
  • Strong writing and client management skills
  • Sense of humor, entrepreneurial spirit and attention to detail


Preferred Experience & Education


  • Prior firm, Hill, committee or campaign experience
  • Degree in political science, public policy, or related field


Salary:

Competitive salary based on experience.
