The Vice President, Discovery Research will oversee Alpine’s discovery research organization and provide leadership across discovery, preclinical and clinical research. Contributes to pipeline prioritization, planning, strategy, and implementation of R&D plans.

Our office and lab are located in the blossoming biotech neighborhood of Eastlake in Seattle. Alpinists enjoy the flexibility to work onsite, remotely, or a hybrid schedule, with evolving options as we prioritize keeping Alpinists safe and healthy. The Vice President, Discovery Research will oversee Alpine’s discovery research organization and provide leadership across discovery, preclinical and clinical research. Contributes to pipeline prioritization, planning, strategy, and implementation of R&D plans.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Drive innovation through a deep understanding of immunology and creative application of novel technologies and develop a robust and high-quality product portfolio.
- Establish and execute upon a strategic research plan, targeting new initiatives in immunotherapy while supporting existing development programs
- Oversee all discovery projects and scientific operations to ensure the organization meets its scientific objectives, in pursuit of new disease indications and target opportunities
- Lead discovery initiatives including protein engineering, in vitro and in vivo pharmacology
- Collaborate with Translational Medicine and Clinical Development to evaluate potential biomarkers and identify target indications
- Set clear expectations, give appropriate autonomy, and guide team members; manage performance by providing feedback, guidance/teaching, and development opportunities
- Lead and manage the development of annual scientific goals, including obtaining and acting upon inputs from the Board of Directors, the Scientific Advisory Board, and collaborators.
- Establish and effectively manage industrial and academic collaborations and internal/external partners.
- Ensure up ¬to ¬date knowledge of developments in discovery research and practices, and timely dissemination of this knowledge.
- PhD in immunology or related field with a minimum of 15 years of relevant proven experience in drug development, including demonstrated success at the conception, discovery and development of first-in-human drug development candidates (e.g. successful INDs or equivalents)
- Self-starter with strong scientific curiosity and rigor, excellent interpersonal and analytic skills, high ethical standards, and outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- A desire to be part of a highly innovative, dynamic, and growing company aimed at developing novel therapeutics for patients.
- Demonstrable ability and enthusiasm for identifying, setting, and meeting ¬critical deliverables, delivering clinical candidates into development.
- Track record of developing efficient discovery processes and leading complex cross-functional team collaborations, including managing relationships with internal and external collaborators.
- Proven track record of advancing programs through discovery, IND-enabling studies, and IND filing.
- Ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders.
- Ability to celebrate differences and encourage scientific openness and frank discussion.
- Team¬ oriented and invests in the success of others.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
