At Akoya, we believe our documentation is key to delivering a best-in-class developer experience. We are looking for a senior technical writer with at least ten years of experience to lead our documentation team as we embark on our next phase of growth. The position requires evaluating Akoya’s documentation process and tools and recommend enhancements to both our overall documentation strategy. This role will lead a small team of technical writers and the expectation is that this individual will also be contributing to the documentation as a tech writer. The role also requires deep collaboration with product managers, developers, UX designers, subject matter experts, and leaders across multiple disciplines and functional roles.


Responsibilities include:


Documentation Strategy & Execution – 60%

  • Define the Akoya content strategy to future proof the model in line with our growth plans
  • Continuously monitor customer feedback and recommendations to inform a roadmap of enhancements
  • Develop technical product documentation standard methodologies and process improvements, in conjunction with championing adoption
  • Introduce best-in-class tools (how-to-videos, code samples etc.) as a way to enhance the developer experience and reduce the time and effort to connect to Akoya
  • Oversee a team of technical writers, offering mentorship and assistance to uphold the standard of documentation excellence.
  • Manage the work and support the documentation team and help prioritize the work to ensure efficiencies.
  • Manage tasks and information flow using collaboration software such as JIRA, Confluence, SharePoint
  • Manage content and resources, ensuring efficient and effective use of company resources.
  • Ensure documentation is updated and relevant as the business evolves


Develop technical documentation – 40%

  • API specifications/documentation- Create and maintain API & SDK documentation and related development materials.
  • Contribute to API release notes, communicating changes, enhancements, and bug fixes to developers and stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain code samples, sample applications, Quick starts, Tutorials, implementation guides.
  • Interview subject matter experts and research technical concepts.
  • Review, clarify, and edit content written by developers, product owners, or others.
  • Attend daily standups and maintain (remote) office hours

Qualifications

Skills you have:

  • 10+ years of experience. May be combined experience as a developer and writer/editor with at least 5+ years in a Lead/Manager technical writing role.
  • Experience building and enhancing technical documentation processes from conception.
  • Proven experience guiding leadership in documentation best practices and leading organizational improvements.
  • Ability to work independently, troubleshoot, and coordinate with subject matter experts.
  • People management
  • Skilled in content gap identification and follow-up through all phases from planning, research, and content creation.
  • Proven ability to test documentation for technical accuracy.
  • Expertise in understanding and conveying technical concepts.
  • English writing and editing skills.
  • Strong understanding of APIs, RESTful web services, and programming concepts.
  • Proficiency in the following tools, languages, or standards: OpenAPI/Swagger, Postman, JSON, HTML, Markdown, MS Office, and Visual Studio Code (or other IDE).


Preferred Experience

  • Proven ability to develop and drive the documentation strategy
  • Experience using ReadMe.io, Stoplight Studio, and/or Postman
  • Previous technical writing esp. in a SaaS or a financial services company
  • Prior experience in software development or exposure to coding languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript)
  • User Experience Design or Research coursework. training, or experience
